Blue Bible

I'm just starting my planning and have some posts about a Blue Bible. What exactly is this and where can I get a hold of one? Thanks!

ha...lorbrik...I had the same question..I don't feel like such a retard now... This refers to the color of the outside of the book...but they are the Ultimate Kauai Revealed and I saw an Ultimate Maui Revealed too. I'm not sure what others are available, but I just purchased mine at Barnes & Noble and devoured it in 1 day. I am a travel book geek, and this is BY FAR the best that I had ever read. I can't wait to put it into use in March...get one quick!!!

While the "Blue Bible" series of books are terrific sources of information, you should be aware of the fact that they are somewhat controversial - in part because they promote "undiscovered" beaches and such, which of course are far from "undiscovered" now because so many people have the books. Locals who are used to having these locations to themselves however have been known to be more than a bit upset by the sudden influx of "trespassers" into their local hangout spots. In fact, some "undiscovered" locations have had so many visitors that access to the locations has been cut off by fences, gates etc because of the sheer volume of people and the fear of lawsuits if something were to happen to someone while clambering down some steep slope etc while on private property.

This brings up the second aspect of controversy about the books - the fact that the books seem to promote trespassing.

If you choose to head off to some of the "undiscovered" locations presented in the books, use some common sense. While it may indeed by legal to get to some of these locations, keep in mind that it's one thing for a handful of people to cross a piece of private property occasionally, and something quite different for a steady stream of folks to do so. There are also safety issues to consider. From what I understand, some of the "undiscovered" locations can be pretty unsafe unless the water conditions are just right and I've read more than a few horror stories about folks being swept off rocks into the sea by a rogue wave.

The "Blue Bilbles" are great books, but they are not the end-all of information sources. Use them with common sense and common courtesy.

Ken's summary is very good. The most recent books have caveats about trespassing on private land. (There's plenty to see and do without risking ticking someone off or trekking over fragile landscape!)

Also agree with Ken.

Do like the fact that with the password from the book, you can access a lot of info on different lodgings. Great aerial photos. Those are really helpful in seeing how 'oceanfront' a property really is.
