BLOCK ISLAND ACCOMODATIONS
two couples, parents and child + 1, wanted to spend sept 17 weekend at block island...looking for B&B or Inn suggestions??
comfort is #1...will have car....$150 or less if possible per room?? thanks

Hi Bob - we have not stayed there but the Carriage House at The Island Home (www.theislandhome.com) was recently recommended to us as a comfortable place for a family gathering. It is in your price range so I thought I would pass the recommendation along. Craig

I've stayed at Champlin's Marina which was nice and the Weather Bureau Inn, again very nice. B&B's sometimes do not accomodate children, so it limits your choices. A relative of mine stayed at the Sam Peckham Inn and said it was also nice. Have a great time!

My husband and I have been going to Block Island for weekends, weekly rentals, etc. for nearly 15 years. Now we have two kids that we've brought along with us so I feel that I can safely recommend some good places and some spots to avoid. Most B&Bs do not permit children. However, there are some lovely inns that are family friendly, charming and quaint if one can combine all that. The two I would highly recommend are 1) the Atlantic Inn (go to www.atlanticinn.com) and 2) the 1661 Inn. Both have gorgeous views, nice accomodations and little extras that go with the room rate. I think the Atlantic may even have a "deal" going on for anything post Sept. 12 (considered shoulder season on the island).
With due respect to previous posters, I would avoid Champlin's Marina (bar, loud, a little cheesey) and Sam Peckham Inn, ditto. Has a pool but is big and it's not in a very attractive location (New Harbor, boat yard, etc.).
If you call the Chamber of Commerce when it's not very busy (mid-week, afternoon), you can probably get some good advice as well.
But I would vote for the Atlantic Inn-high point being that we've had kids asleep in our room while we had some r&r and a drink on the gorgeous deck with a baby monitor at our side. Absolutely sublime.
Oh-another Atlantic Inn plug: best restaurant on the island. excellent bar...fantastic.

Helpful clarification, but I still stand by the Atlantic Inn rec. If you're foodies, it's the best. If you not need a restaurant within the Inn, then give 1661 a try...or the Barrington (B&B)is awfully nice. We've had lovely stays there. Quiet. You definitely do not want to stay near Old Harbor, it's awfully noisy on the weekends.
