Black Hills, Mount Rushmore, Badlands Trip Report
Not a lot of recent action in the South Dakota Forum, but I was able to glean quite a bit of information from prior posts to help in our planning. Many thanks to the contributors.
Our family of 4 (DD17, DD14) spent 8 nights in South Dakota as a road trip from Indiana:
1 night in Sioux Falls
5 nights in Custer (VRBO)
1 night in Wall (Frontier Cabins)
1 night in Sioux Falls on return
We focused on the National Park Service and Custer State Park options in the area. Specifically:
NPS sites visited:
Mount Rushmore, Jewel Cave, Wind Cave, Minuteman Missile, Badlands, Devil's Tower
Custer SP:
3 scenic drives, Harney Peak, Sunday Gulch, Prairie Loop Trail
Other Black Hills:
Spearfish Scenic Byway (Roughlock Falls & Devil's Bathtub hikes), DC Booth Fishery
Sites along the way:
[Sioux] Falls Park, Corn Palace, Chamberlain Rest Area (Lewis & Clark)
Photos and commentary here:

Thanks again!

Nice report - we took this trip many years ago with our 3 children. It is a part of America that everyone should see at least once. I also remember the heat and marvel at the tenacity of the early settlers.
I am sorry to hear that you have had some recent health issues but appear to have fully recovered. Take care and thank you for sharing.

Oh my - I have just been rereading your reports from Scotland and Cornwall when your kids were younger - and shorter! What a difference four years has made. (I know, I know - I swore as a kid I'd never say 'my how you've grown' to kids, but that oath was made a while ago.)
As always, a fun report to read, thanks for all the effort and detail. (And glad to hear you have recovered.)
