Birdie back in Philly

Birdie back in Philly
And still loving it.
We went up to visit DS at Drexel.
Stayed at the Inn at Penn which is a Hilton property. We have stayed there in the past and have always been pleased. It is very quiet and nicely decorated in arts and crafts style. If someone was looking for a different lodging experience than the old or center city one then the Inn would be a good choice. The Unversity city area is vibrant with great restaurants, activities and shopping.
I wanted to introduce DS to a different area of the city so I made Friday night resies at Villa di Roma in the Italian Market. They were very nice when I had to change the reservation as our trip up 95 lengthened due to traffic. The food, however, was only ok. It was a fun experience but when there are so many great restaurants in Philly, you hate to waste a meal at a mediocre one.
While the two guys attended the car show at the convention center, the two girls drove out to see Ursinus College and do some shopping at KoP. DD and I have a game we like to call "The Snobbiest Sales People". On this trip we were pleased to award it to the KoP Louis Vuitton staff. A big hand to all the sales people who think they are soooo much better than those that dare enter their little shop.
The rest of the family had plans to go to the Flyers game. DH had found great tixs on www.stubhub.com. While I love sports, I'm not one to enjoy paying big bucks for professional sports. Oh dear, all by myself. What would I do? Well, I went shopping at EMS (heaven!!!) and Douglas for makeup. Had a marvelous meal by myself downstairs at Penne. An Italian sparkling with pears and proscuitto followed by a pinot noir with scallops and mashed potatoes and spinach. Topped off the evening watching naked Viggo in Eastern Promises. Was I disappointed that I missed the hat trick at the Flyers' game? Not at all.
It was a very quick trip and there are still a lot of places to try on our return. Amy, I still want to get to the Naked Chocolate Cafe and I saw the new Phila. Mag. top 50 restaurant list that gave me a whole new list of places to go.

Birdie, we must coordinate next time as my DD and I were at King of Prussia on Saturday afternoon as well!
I do not know Douglas; where is this? Next time also check out if there are any shows at the World Cafe Live. They are usually all ages shows. It is right on the edge of the Penn campus on Walnut.
Glad you had fun, as usual!

Hurrah! I'm glad you had a good time, and now you have the inspiration of coming back for Naked Chocolate! (plus the Philly Mag list...)
I just love this city, and it makes me happy when other people do too.

Suki - Doesn't it just figure??!!
I hope your shopping was successful. Douglas is next door to the Inn on Walnut. It is like a smaller Ulta or Sephora. I do know about World Cafe Live. My brother plays bass guitar for Christine Havrilla so I'm waiting for them to play there again. We should do a gtg there. Then we'll go to Naked Chocolate with Amy!!!

Douglas is a German company that predates Sephora--it was started by a man from Scotland who set up business in Germany nearly 200 years ago. What's nice about Douglas is that you may be able to find German and Swiss brands that you can't ordinarily find in the U.S. and usually not in Sephora, brands like Juvena (from Baden-Baden), Dr. Scheller, Braukman, Marlies Moller (fab hair care products), Guhl (good inexpensive hair products) etc. Plus their own house brands.
You will find Douglas stores in much of Europe and in virtually every German city and larger train station shopping arcade. Nice to see they're in the U.S. too.
