Biloxi Info

We are planning a trip to the Biloxi area to gamble in early summer. Need info on good hotels and places to eat. Also concerned about parking--is is free or is there a charge? What about shuttles? What about the beaches?
Thank you in advance for any information you can share.
Pat

That is an EASY request now. If you want to stay in the newest premier VEGAS STYLE hotel, stay at the Beu Rivage in Biloxi. It is supposed to be increadible. I have talked to MANY people who have stayed and said it was great. (Incidentally, the Cirque de Ole (sp?) will be there beginning in early May as a permanent show) Also, the Grand Hotel in Biloxi is very nice. I have stayed there many times. With both of these hotels, you are on the beach. In case you don't know, however, there are barrier islands off the Biloxi coast, so the water is not a nice color, although it is safe. Parking is free at all of the hotels and casinos. Shuttles run from the front entrance all the way up and down the coast to all of the casinos. As far as restaurants go, I have never been real impressed with any, however, the best local restaurant, in my opinion, is Mary Mahoney's. It is a very nice OLD New Orleans style seafood restaurant, not on the beach.

Hi Pat, this message may be too late, but maybe it will come in handy to someone else. I grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and went home in August to a totally different city. It has really changed and cleaned up quite a bit, however the traffic has increased. The previous poster had great recommendation for hotels. There are plenty of great restaurants, you just have to know where to look. Mary Mahoney's is good, but very over rated. Drive over the bridge to Ocean Springs and eat at Aunt Jennies (all you can eat catfish, shrimp, hush puppies...). Harbor House is my favorite, they have very good seafood gumbo and oyster poor boys. Ask the locals, they will be glad to point you in the right direction. There are very few things on the beach side of Hwy. 90, most of the time you will have to cross over. The beach is a yucky color, but go to the harbor and take a trip to Ship Island, the water is crystal clear and the beach is beautiful. It is about an hour boat ride there, they drop you off and come back later. There is a snack hut and showers. Take plenty of sunscreen and no glass is allowed on the beach. Any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Tracy,
Thanks! No you are not too late, we go in a few days. I appreicate the information. I love to eat where the locals eat when I travel. The island thing sounds good, too.
Thanks again,
Pat

The Marine Life Oceanarium in Gulfport is nice too. It's not nearly as big as some of the MarineLand's of Florida, etc. But you can get close to the dolphins, sea lions, etc and they have some cute shows. A nice way to spend a couple of hours.

The shuttle service in Biloxi is free and convenient but be aware that some casinos in Biloxi are on the bay side and waiting for/riding shuttles can tie you for several hours.
