I will be traveling with my husband and four 15 year old girls at the end of August (from New York-Long Island area). I would like to rent a house and I am not sure which location would be best. I would like a place that would allow for the girls to take a walk to the Boardwalk if they want to, a place where we won't have to use the car much. I would like them to be able to go to the beach or for a walk when they like, instead of hearing, "I'm bored!"
Which beach in these Delaware areas would be best for our needs? I have never been to Delaware.

I think Rehoboth would be better. There is more to do.
I would get to work and rent soon - houses that are a short walk to the Rehoboth boardwalk go quick (and are expensive, and you're going at the height of the season). The boardwalk in Rehoboth is at least 10 times bigger than the one in Bethany.
My 14 yr old son loved Rehoboth last summer. I was comfortable letting him walk up to the boardwalk to meet a friend. I think there is more to do in Rehoboth, particularly if you are walking.
Definitely Rehoboth. Teen girls will be bored to tears in Bethany. It is a cute family town, but the boardwalk is really limited. Muc better suited to younger kids. The girls will also love shopping at the outlet malls in Rehoboth-no sales tax either! they would need a car or ride to get to the malls. Rehoboth has a very open gay community which may offend some, but in my mind, just adds to the flavor and diversity of the community. You could also consider Ocean City MD. Lots of action there, but the boardwalk crowd can be a little rougher than Rehoboth.
As a teen many many many moons ago whose parents rented in Bethany, I agree that Rehoboth would be better. But it is getting really late to rent something there for August.
