We're thinking of renting a cabin near Pigeon Forge -- looking at late October. Is this usually a good time weather-wise? When do the fall foliage colors typically peak -- should we be thinking earlier in October? Thanks in advance!

Anytime is good
Late october is good for fall color. Every year can be different - late October is usually better than early October. Depending on where you are (elevation) good color can continue into November. 3rd week of Oct is always a good bet.
Thanks Starrs!
Hi I would say the 2nd or 3rd week of October. The mountains high up will change sooner but in the town and valley that would be a good time. Heres a website that keeps track of the dates and has pictures so you can get an ideal of time wise. Also the Spring is very nice time to visit as well.

Always enjoy fall in late October...
We live north of Atlanta and travel to PF 3-4 times a year.Although toursit-tacky it does have a certain "something" that appeals to a broad spectrum of folks.
Dining can be quite nice. If you'd like a good Southern -style meal-breakfast, lunch or dinner-consider the Old Mill in PF. It is very popular and the portions are generous. Iced tea a must! It's Cafe across the st. is also great! They even have a little ice cream shoppe-HUGE portions!
You can't go wrong with JT Hannah's restaurant too.
Keep in mind if you do go at peak color season traffic will be horrific. Be prepared to crawl along the Parkway. Folks suddenly shift down to about 10 miles an hour
DO NOT waste your time or money choosing The Partridge and Pear Restuarant-it may ooze holiday cheer on the outside but the food has been a terrible let-down for many folks. Pricing is too high as well.
We were there the last week in October last year, and I'd recommend going a week or so earlier than that. Loved the Park, hated Gatlinburg & Pigeon Forge.
