Best time to book hotel in Vegas

I'm making reservations for a July trip to Vegas and the Grand Canyon. Just wondering what is the best time to get good deals on priceline for hotels in Vegas?

We will be in Vegas on July 2 and then on the return July 9. We were able to get a room for $80. at the Westin behind the Flamingo for the 9th but can't seem to get anything close to that price for the 2nd. Does the 4th of July holiday make a difference?

Do they ever have any last minute deals for Vegas in the summer that I should wait for? Not sure if I should wait or bid higher now? There are 6 of us so we need two rooms.

Holiday weekends are typically very expensive in Vegas. You may want to make cancellable reservations now - and keep trying Priceline - but don;t plan on any bargains.

Maybe outside of the strip will work better for us. Can anyone suggest accomodations that are not too far from the strip and in the direction of the Grand Canyon? I'm sure we will want to still drive to the strip that day so I don't want something too far away but at least in the same direction of the Grand Canyon. Thanks Again

Weekends rates are much higher than week days and holiday weekends as well as conventions even higher. We subscribe to several Las Vegas hotel web-sites, so they will e-mail us there current offers. We booked a 3-day weekend at the Monte Carlo in July for $100 per night. Also their web-sites usually post a calander of pricing about 3-4 months ahead.

Just one night of a 3-day-wkd is notoriously difficult to get in Las Vegas. Maybe try AlexisResort.com, about a mile from the strip near the Hard Rock Hotel.

It's tough to priceline so far in advance, knowing you're out of luck if you need to change or cancel.

Sign up on hotel websites to be notified when special deals pop up. You'll be amazed at how many you'll get for major strip hotels.

Thanks Tess - great idea. I'm looking to book for the fall and your idea works.

Guess I need to stop pointing and clicking so much and start key stroking more often.
