Best time of year for snorkeling on Kauai's North Shore

We're considering a return trip to Kauai this year, and possibly to Lanai.
First trip to Kauai and Maui was several years ago in October, and the
Napali Coast waters were a bit rough. My husband is interested in
snorkeling on the North Shore of the island. Any suggestions on best
time of year to do this?

I love May for going to the islands. I also love to snorkel. I've done Kauai in mid_May which was great. I've done the island in eary May which was spotty. I had four out of seven great days. Mid-May through September probably are the best.

The reason I like May is LESS PEOPLE!

The water is much rougher in the winter on the north shore of all the islands. Summer will have smaller waves and calmer water, so better snorkeling. Go before mid september.
