Best spot to see a sunrise in Boston

I'm passing by Boston on my way Cape Cod and have about 5 hours to kill. Arriving at South Station at 6am.......where's the best spot (within walking distance or a short train ride away) where I can catch a great sunrise? Thanks everyone!

I think I would just go down to the harbor, and do a little of the Harborwalk. Sunrise over the ocean, reflected on the buildings is really pretty.

I took this photo last May at 7AM from the Harborwalk near the Moakley courthouse:

Its obviously a bit after sunrise, but still very pretty.

thanks yougogabe. I was lucky with the weather. about 15 minutes after I took that photo it clouded up and nothing else that day was as nice.

You can most definitely walk. Take a look at googlemaps, and you will see the South Station is just about a block from Fort Point Channel. The harborwalk runs along the harbor on both sides of the channel, crossing at Congress street, so you could go in either direction from there. My picture was from the walkway directly in front of the Daily Catch restaurant.

I would walk to the Boston Harbor Hotel, about three blocks.

There are splendid views of the Harbor from their terrace, and you can have a luxury breakfast before you go.

The problem is that we don't know when you are going. Because Boston is close to the edge of the Eastern time zone, sunrise will be waaaay earlier than 6AM for roughly 3 weeks before and after the summer solstice. You can look it up.

@china_cat - agreed, super photo! But since I'll be there the middle of July, I don't think I'll be getting up for sunrise. Now sunSET, that I can make.

If you miss the sunrise in Boston, don't despair. The Cape has gorgeous sunrises and sunsets too.
