Best Splurge Restaurant Chicago or Evanston (Spa too)

We are three women getting together without kids for a fun weekend in October, we'll also be attending our 15th college reunion at Northwestern. We'll be staying at the Orrington in Evanston. Friday night we want to go out to an amazing, splurge, adult, relaxing dinner. One is vegitarian. Convenient to taxi from Evanston but anywhere downtown, north side would be fine.

Ideas?

Thanks!

Charlie Trotter - Money mostly no object but this might be a bit too much

Tru - We've been before, might do again but wouldn't mind something else

Ambria - Reviews seemed mixed, worried about vegitarian

Va Pensiero (In Evanston) - a contender given location but also maybe considered a bit tired these days

Spiaggia - Been before wouldn't mind something a little more on the edge

MK - Considering

We had a fabulous dinner at TRU but our MK dining experience was very disappointed. Food was so so but service lazy, unprofessional and ignored all our request until we asked to speak to a manager. Would return to TRU any time but never to MK.
Spiaggia was nice but nothing too exciting

Alinea is the hot splurge restaurant these days but their menu is set, you might give them a call and see about the vegetarian issue. Reservations are hard to get so call soon

I think Japonais is supposed to be pretty hot right now as well. The NY Times did an article on good restaurants on the North side of Chicago not too long ago:
