Best seating at the Old LaHaina Luau
I have made reseravations for the Old LaHaina Luau during my upcoming trip to Maui. I am going with my family and children ages 6, 9, 13 and 19. I made reservations well in advance and was able to get the "traditional seating" on the grass in front of the stage. They made it sound like it is the choice seating. However, I am wondering if it would be better to have a normal table and chairs. Does anyone have any experience with this? Where is the best place to sit?

I would assume traditional seating refers to the ancient Hawaiians who had no chairs! I would pick the table and chairs myself, otherwise it would be like having a picnic where you sit on the ground, nice at first, then, not so good. But if you don't mind leg cramps your kids would like the grass seating.
How about table for you and husband, grass for the kids? They may like being right up front, sitting on the grass.

My teenage daughter and I sat on the ground and enjoyed it very much. It's also as close as you can get to the show. But the tables are only about 20 feet back, so if you think leg cramps might be a problem, you might want to retreat to the tables!

Yes the tables are low.
You kind of have to site indian style b/c if your legs are stretched out under the table you would be kicking the person across from you.
We chose the traditional seating and did not really love it. We were the first seats next to the stage which was cool but my husband is 6'2" and did not have any easy time sitting through dinner on the floor.
Like the other poster said, the tables are literally a few feet back. Without a doubt, I would say the view is just as good - maybe even nicer b/c you're a little higher up.
Perhaps you can arrange for the kids to have traditional seating at a table right in front of your table seating. I'm sure they can do that. Just a thought.
