Looking for the best, money no object, for a friend going to New York with her mother and sister. They have eaten at many of the usual restaurants, Union Square Cafe, River Cafe, Le Cirque. This trip they have reservations at Le Bernardin, but are looking for some other top restaurants. The trip is early June. Thanks in advance!

Daniel is considered one of the top in the city, and it is an impressive place. Just be advised that the portions are small (french style!).
I have heard alot of good things about Gramercy Tavern, however I had not had the opportunity to try it. For seafood go to the Oyster Bar in Grand Central Station. In Little Italy I like IL Cortile. It's pricey, but well worth it.
Gramercy Tavern it is!
Bouley in Tribeca is always exceptional. One possibility for extending the enjoyment, many top restaurants have really good fixed price lunches, particularly on Fridays. Montrachet, also in Tribeca, is usually fantastic.
For really exceptional deserts, Payard Patisserie on Lexington and 73rd is a must.
Would one of Mario Batali's eateries (Babbo, Lupa or Esca) fit the bill...?
Here's another recommendation for Grammercy Tavern.
We were whopping underwhelmed at Daniel, not by the portions but by the food and its preparation.
Il Mulino
Daniel Boulud's Daniel. Really the top restaurant in NYC at this time.
Have not been there but Jean Georges in the Trump Hotel is rated very highly. Two of my favorites are Aquavit & Auerole.
71 Clinton Fresh Food is my favorite, along with Olives at the W Union Sqare Hotel, fabulous mediterranean cuisine!

Everything you would want to know about restaurants.
Is Picholine still wonderful? We had an incredible meal there two years ago - one of the best places I've ever eaten . ..
Le Bernardin was wonderful. I recommend it highly. They are supposed to have the best seafood in the city.
Marilyn-
My FAVORITE is Le Bernardin.....best french seafood in the world!!!
I also like Mesa Grill--but it is way more casual...food is very good..
Concierge.com ( a div. of Conde Naste ) just listed these restaurants in NY in the top 50 of American restaurants:
Jean Georges
Daniel
Le Bernardin
Babbo
Nobu
Grammercy Tavern
Gotham Bar and Grill
If I had my druthers, I would go to Le Bernardin and Babbo as my top 2 choices..and definitely make reservations WELL IN ADVANCE!!!
Enjoy!
Thank you one and all. My friend is thrilled with all the suggestions and I think will become a regular on fodors now. She is a world traveller and extremely knowledgable about both SE Asia and Mexico, so her input will be a great asset.
If you are looking to drop some cash and looking for an atmosphere that would contrast with Le Bernadin, Nobu or Craft both have progressive menus. Bouley is very good, though more on the traditional side. Babbo.
