Best rates at Four Seasons Hualalai/Maui?
We are starting to scout out locations for our June 2006 honeymoon and I am in love with these two resorts. We are thinking one week on Maui and one on the Big Island. Are the rates for these hotels generally $600 a night, as I've seen? Any way to get better deals? Thanks so much!

Hi Wailufalls, do a text search, this question has come up a few times recently. 4S Hawii is no longer discounting any rooms, occupancy levels are so high they don't need to.
If you see a 5th, 7th, or free breakfast promo for the 4S BI book now, as the hotel is almost already sold out for the rest of this year. It is hard to get even those discounted rates now. Place the reservation and change it later if you need to. If you are able to get in at one of those promos I'd consider it a deal at this point.

Someone said it before - other hotels will be a disappointment after the 4S BI, even the 4S Maui.
If I had to conserve money at all, I'd spend time elsewhere on the island on the days I planned to be out and about and treat myself to 2-3 days at the 4S and not budge from the resort.
A couple of years ago when I was planning a trip I found a great, secluded cottage on the north? (clockwise along the coast from the 4S) shore of the Big Island with a path down to a private beach. Then it was less than $200/ night.
I stayed at the Hilton (free) for a week and then just vegged on the 4S property for 4 days. Heaven on earth - and a great way to do the island.

Here's one of them -

$150 /night
Seclusion in paradise
The reviews are incredible (as are the views)
It is on the north end of the island so consider that and know you have to drive a bit to get somewhere.
This one isn't the one with the path to a private beach. I refound this one on www.alternative-hawaii.com. Happy searching.
I was on the verge of booking this one when I found I could get the Hilton free on points.
I could easily see spending all 2 weeks on the Big Island. Several days or a week here...the first few not going anywhere and the next days heading to the beaches at Kona, etc. Then drive around to Hilo (through cowboy country) and on to Volcano Village. Stay for a night to see the NP. Then on to end the trip at 4S.
You can't beat a $1000 / week with this kind of tropical location. Of course, if you want night life and bars, this wouldn't be a good option.

Happy Honeymoon!
Some really fantastic advice! I agree that you need to decide what your expectations and travel style is. If you plan on exploring and aren't filthy rich, then spending a few days at each resort to fully enjoy the "resort destination" is a fabulous treat. Start each island at a more affordable location while you head out to all the amazing beaches and sights and leave your honeymoon understanding the islands and why so many of us fall in love with them..... and then hunker down for a couple of nights at 4S and fall in love with your surroundings, and savour them.
I've stayed at 4S Maui and loved it twice. With it's tariff, you want to relax and enjoy. The dilemna is, if you book the whole honeymoon at 4seasons, you may never see why Hawaii is so magical.
If you can afford a week at each property, then by all means enjoy yourselves and have the time of your life. And of course, both islands should be seen by different locations, if you plan on exploring at all. A couple of nights checking out the Volcano, and couple of nights in Hana or Kapalua....

I know its abit late to reply to this but we stayed at the four seasons maui and loved it, though the general concensus is that it is not as truly paradise like as the hualalai, as it is in a 'resort' area next to a number of hotels. It is however considerably cheaper. We booked through travel-hawaii.com. The guy there, Kelsey is soo helpful and the prices are the cheapest i could find on the net and considerably cheaper than their website rates. Hope this helps!
