Sorry about that! Anyway, need to see the best plantation home in the South. Taking a trip to Pensacola, fla. soon and wanted to see a real beautiful plantation. Will be traveling in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Any suggestions? (preferably close to the highway) thanks!

We visited Destrehan Plantation--short distance out of New Orleans. Is on the River road --although cannot see the river from property. Frence origin is interesting and was the site of movie "Interview with a Vampire"

Natchez, Mississipi is a little off the beaten path but filled with mansions and plantation homes. Well worth the trip. Stay at Monmouth Plantation, visit Stanton Hall and any others you have time for. In Louisiana, you can stay at Nottoway Plantation which is right on the Mississippi River. It's open for tours during the day but at night, only open to those who stay there. Absolutely beautiful. Not sure how close it is to the highway but again, it's worth the trip off the main road. There are a number of plantations on the River Road trip you can take.

I'll agree w/dgar. For the highest concentration of Plantation style homes, Natchez is the place to go, no contest.www.visitnatchez.com.

Madewood in Napoleonville : you can sleep and have a diner .It's a journey in history...Not an hotel like Monmouth(which is nice but entirely transformed in hotel...).
Oak Alley and Nottoway are classic and nice, but Kent for history(it's smaller...).
