If you take this route, you go through two national forests, but there aren't many places to stop for the night.

It's only about 3.5 hours, so I'd just do the drive in a day and get to Snowmass.

Why do you want to stop--sort of paraphrasing Tabernash. It's an easy drive==and pretty. Just enjoy and stay at the end.

As the others have stated we need to know is little more. Why do you need a stopping point between CS and Aspen? You did not mean Snowbasin by any chance? You might need a stopping point if going to Snowbasin.

No, I have reservations in Colorado Springs and in Snow Mass and thought they were further apart, also, need to stay somewhere for the first night as reservation starts next night in SnowMass, any suggestions? We are low maintenance.

Still not clear. Do you have an open night between Snowmass (it is one word) and C Springs? Spend the night in Leadville.

Leadville could be cute. Breckenridge. Go on to Aspen and spend a night.
