Does anyone know the best areas to snorkel on the gulf coast side of Florida, preferably without making a boat trip?

Sue, I'm sorry to tell you that I've lived on the Florida Gulf coast for 25 years and I can't think of a good snorkelling spot. We have always sailed to the Keys and/or Dry Tortugas. Maybe there's an area I don't know about that someone else is aware of. Hope so.
I have to agree with the above post. I grew up in Sarasota, and it isn't that you can't snorkel, there just isn't anything to see except for sand, sand, and more sand!
The same applies to Northwest Florida- Pensacola to Panama City. We have pretty water but nothing much to see but sand. It's too cold to snorkle in Northwest Florida without a wetsuit until May.
