Best Place in NYC to get a Hot Fudge Sundae..after the Marathon

My wife is running in the marathon and wants a place to "carbo load" after the marathon.

What is the best ice cream shop in NYC for a hot fudge sundae(with extra fudge)?

Since she will be in running clothes, I am not thinking of any hotel or really upscale place. After Chicago, she hit Ghiradelli's, but there isn't a Ghiradelli's in NYC.

Thanks

Merilee took the words right out of my mouth. They also have a special called a Frozen Hot Chocolate. As I posted a few days ago, I couldn't figure out the big deal about it -- it was a really good chocolate shake, but nothing special. But I saw their hot fudge sundaes and drolled all over myself. How embarrassing.

B aware that the lines at Sendipity get long at peak hours on weekends.
It's a very tiny place inside.
And very popular.
(And worth at least a modest wait IMO).

Dylan's (Ralph LAurens Daughter) is on the same block as Serendipity's so if the line is to long go there.

We were at Serendipity about 9:30 on a Saturday night recently and the line was out the door with a 90 minute wait for a table. Went to Dylan's instead. Tried again on a Monday night and waited maybe 10 minutes before we were seated. Great banana split!

Another suggestion is Googie's diner on 2nd Ave at 78th street. They have shakes, hot fudge sundaes, etc. They also have a great breakfast and yummy sandwiches.

While I agree with Serendipity, you may not be able to get in and I'm sure that is the last thing your wife wants to do is stand on line in her running clothes. The Brooklyn Diner on the corner of 57th and 7th would be a good alternative.

Lordy, Serendipity is the place to go for a Hot Fudge Sundae!
Frozen Hot chocolates are wonderful, but if you want hot fudge, you will love theirs.
In the afternoons, they might not be so crowded, that is when we like to go there best.
Just leave your name with the guy at the door and take a walk around and come back..Enjoy~

Another vote for Serendipity. Personally, I think the hot fudge sundae is much better than the frozen hot chocolate.

When we got to Serendipity about 7 PM during our visit, we were told it was an hour wait. Fine. However, by the time they started calling names, over half the people on the list left and we were seated within 15 minutes. Hopefully you'll have such luck.

I remember having a peanut butter sundae for dessert at Serendipity... after having a very agreable meal.

They brought me this HUGE ice cream cup with what had to be at least half a jar of Jif. It was so much, that they put a bowl under it to catch everything that was dripping.

The 'drippings' would have been a fair amount. It was the first time that I couldn't finish a dessert... it was so good but so incredibly huge that I just couldn't finish it.

Well, that does it for me. I will have a hot fudge sunday indeed on my upcoming trip, even if my wife kills me later. She loves hot fudge sundays and can't go along this time. Are they open late at night?

Serendipity's sounds like the absolute best choice but...IF they're too mobbed, a second possibility might be Cafe Lalo on W. 83rd, off Broadway. Pretty place, informal, featured in the movie You've Got Mail. Web site is www.lalo.com (it says their hot fudge is homemade). Farther up than Serendipity but easy to reach on the subway...pastries there are terrific, too, in case your fellow carboloaders don't want ice cream.

Here's hoping Dick's wife has a great race today and enjoys her best sundae ever!

I don't think I could do what she did with the Frozen Hot chocolate though~
