Best options for viewing, learning about lava flows on Big Island?

Jump to last reply

My husband & I will be making our first-ever trip to Hawaii in late October. We'll be staying on the Big Island in the Kona area. We will have a rental car. I'm looking for suggestions for a tour of the areas of the island where the volcanoe(s) is/are active. I spoke with one organization, Friends of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park, and they have several tours, including one that involves an 8 mile round-trip hike, which is fine with us. I don't mind spending the $600 if it's an amazing experience. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'd love to see the lava flows at night. (daytime is, of course, great also!)

Thank you!
