Best Key West hotel...$$$ NO object???

Staying in Key West this fall and would like some opinions on lodging. Where is the best over-all place to stay? Money is no object since we will be there only 3 nights. We are considering the Hyatt. Any and all responses would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance!

If you want a view of the Gulf, the Hyatt would be a good choice, as would the Ocean Key House - though you'd need to specify a waterfront view both places. Two other wonderful spots are the Marquesa Hotel and the Heron House...neither have water views, but both have wonderful reputations.

Although it is not in the main tourist area (which you may or may not find to your liking), the Casa Marina is a great place to stay. It is a historic hotel that has been renovated to provide moders amenities, but retains the unique charm of by-done days. Not in the middle of things, but if you are in reasonable shape the walk to other attractions is not a problem. Not cheap, but no good hotel in KW is.

Our favorite is Seascape Tropical Inn and Cottages. We like the Treetop studio in the Eyebrow House which is 1 block off Duval. It has a large bathroom, vaulted ceiling, full kitchen and private deck with outdoor shower, 4 person hot tub, and grill. They have a website where you can look at pictures, but it looks nicer in real life than on the web.

The Gardens Hotel gets my vote as THE BEST. It's smallish (about 18 rooms). The rooms are nice sized and very well decorated. Nice pool and hot tub. Great garden area. Very quiet. Not a party place.
The Marquesa is also very nice.
Both places have websites.

I would agree with kirk on the Gardens Hotel if you are looking for romance and quiet... I stayed there in April and actually had a "Life is Perfect" moment while floating in the Pool. You know... it's the split second when you realize that things just could'nt be any more perfect.

If you are looking to be right in the middle of the action, consider the Ocean Key top floor suites... these offer huge jacuzzi baths, separate bedroom and living room and even a dining area. You just take the elevator down to the sunset pier and Mallory Square... The Hyatt is just too chainey for the feel of the keys... let the tourists with the hotel points go there while you suck in the Key west experience on an entirely different level... PS... if money is no object, can you send me some and we'll join you.

Craig,
we stayed at the Marquesa about two years ago and thought it was magnificent. It is a small hotel, two pools, very private, and has a great restaurant. we had a junior sutie of some sort and thought it well worth the money. the marquesa is a destination in itself. have fun--

You'd be hard pressed to find rooms with a better view than the Hilton. You're in Old Town and well within walking distance of everything.

My wife and I stayed there in 99 in a room overlooking the Gulf. The views were stunning and access to everything was superb.

The Marquesa is stunning. The Gardens too. Casa Marina if you get the rooms in the original building. they have a deck off the room that overlooks the pools and beach. If you want beach, it's the only hotel with any sort of beach. As far as being "close in" , just rent mopeds. Oh, forget the Hyatt, the other places have that Key West feeling to them.
