Best Hotel for a College Student
Help!! My son will be attending a Conference in Philadelphia and all of the hotels associated with the Conference are either sold out or close to $300 per night. Ouch!
Which area should I look in for an alternative that will have easy access to the Conv. Ctr?
What is the safest spot for him to be in? He could be with another student or by himself looking for a place to eat, etc.
Thanks so much for your help!!

You don;t say how old your son is - but many hotels won;t take guests under 21 unless with a responsible (financially) adult. So - when looking be sure to check this. (This should not apply at the conference hotels.)
And- it might help if you tell us where the conference is being held - and what your son's budget is.

There are a few B&B suggestions on this thread:

Have you looked at hotels in University City? They may be a tad cheaper, and involves a short bus ride (or 20-min walk).

Bank Street Hostel might fit the bill. It is very cheap, but is also very spartan. It is located between 2nd and 3rd St. near Market, where there are a lot of night clubs.
Alexander Inn is a very good choice, if your son does not mind staying in the gay section of town. Straight people often stay there. CNN stayed there during the Republican Convention of 2000, and they really liked it.
