Best hotel chain with apartment-like suites for a family of four????
We are a family of four - kids are ages 10 & 12. Whenever possible, we prefer to rent a condo/house/villa when we travel since we don't like being cramped into a hotel room. However this isn't possible in all locations.
Does anyone have a hotel chain they recommend that has spacious suites for a family of four? We don't want just a larger hotel room, but more of an apartment-like setting. Typically we stay at Residence Inn by Marriot since they offer 2 bedroom suites, but I was wondering if there are any similar options.
Thanks so much!!

Homewood Suites is good and so is Drury Inn and Suites. Staybridge Suites is cheaper, but also very acceptable. This link may help: http://www.biz-stay.com/home.cfm?page=suitehotelchains

I've stayed at several of those mentioned. I especially like Hyatt Place, Residence Inn. A friend likes Country suites and Inns but I've never stayed there and I think those mentioned are more upscale.

For 1 room, Staybridge Suites.
We had two bedrooms at the Staybridge in Vancouver, WA.
...they tend not to be in city centers.
Yes, but Homewood Suites has some down town properties--in Seattle and Chicago, for instance. There is an Embassy Suites in down town Portland, OR, etc.
Also, there are regional suite hotels worth checking out, such as the Ledgewood in Yakima, WA.

Thanks, I will look into all of these.
The biggest challenge is that we need 3 beds. Since my kids are a boy and a girl (and too old to be okay w/sharing a bed!). Some places have sofa beds, but nobody really wants to sleep on a sofa bed!!
Our trip is to Baltimore/DC so I will start a thread specific to the area as well in case there are any local non-chain options.

Most 2 bedroom suites offer 2 queen beds in 1 room and a king bed in the other room. The living room connects the two bedrooms. Another option is to book 2 regular hotel rooms with connecting doors That offers the same bed configuration.

The Doubletree Suites in DC offers the 2 bedroom suite option - http://doubletree3.hilton.com/en/hot...ns/suites.html

Just one word of warning. The term "suite" is being used by many of these places incorrectly. More and more places offer a bit of a jog in a wall to indicate that suddenly you have two rooms, when in fact it is just a slightly separated seating area. Make sure you know if there are doors between rooms or exactly what the layout is before you commit.
I too love Hyatt Place, but using the term suite is really a far stretch!

Thanks, starrs & Neo. I haven't posted here for a while and it is nice to "see" you both. Neo, I think of you when I visit my parents in Naples.
At this point we are leaning towards the Residence Inn Inner Harbor in Baltimore. It is a bit pricey, but I think the kids will enjoy staying in the city.

We travel the same way (and also with teen son and teen daughter) so I know what it's like to pick apart hotel descriptions to try to figure out what a "suite" is.

Clarion Collection Arlington Court Suites is the hotel we stayed at in DC twice and LOVED it. The first time we had a 2 bedroom, and last October we had a 3 bedroom. Both with big living room and full kitchen. They serve a full breakfast and dinner some nights but we were never back in time for those.
It's also a couple blocks from the Metro. We always got significantly cheaper prices by calling them rather than booking online. I think we paid in the $120 range for our 3 bedroom! They mark it as a "manager's price."
I know you said you're leaning towards Baltimore, but thought I'd throw out this place at Arlington if you wanted to be closer to DC.

In Baltimore, the Tremont Inn is an historic buiding with relatively new 2-bdrm suites with kitchens. It has been a few years, but we liked it there. There is another, slightly more expensive sister property very close by, also. We had breakfast included when we stayed.
