My wife and I are planning an August trip to Minnesota (08/17/02 thru 08/30/02). Since this will be our first visit, we would like to really get to know the state. We plan to stay in four different locations throughout Minnesota - 4 days at each location - covering as much ground as possible in the respective regions. We have already decided on Minneapolis-St.Paul and Duluth as two of the stops and would appreciate any recommendations for the remaining two (possibly more toward the western side). Thanks for your help!

There is NOTHING worth seeing or doing in the western and southern parts of the state. I used to live there.
Eastern and northern Minnesota are like an entirely different state and well worth savoring.
Ever been to California?
It's almost like asking "what should I see east of San Diego?".
Red Wing, Mn is really a nice place to visit and the drive down Highway 61 is quite pretty. This area is in southeast, Mn. On the Western side...haven't personally spent too much time there...New Ulm is pretty, but there's not too much nearby.
You may want to consider spending some time in the St Croix River valley area (Stillwater).
You'll likely really enjoy Duluth and the North Shore, in general. Be sure to make a stop at Gooseberry Falls while you're there.
Enjoy your trip!
With all due respect, WHY do you want to stay in Minn for that long? Why not venture a bit beyond, perhaps to North or South Dakota, Wisconsin, and see more of this great country? To each his own, but just wondering......
