Best Day to Visit Ellis Island

We are in New York over Easter holiday and want to visit Ellis Island.. I am wondering if there is any certain day where it may not be as crowded.. I was thinking we would go Monday..

I think the schools are closed that week through Monday the 21st- so probably any day will be super busy - unless you make it the 22nd or later. It's most important to get your tickets reserved early - and to make it as early in the day as possible to avoid long waiting lines.

Just to clarify, do you mean Ellis Island's Immigration Museum or the Statue of Liberty?

And you should know that virtually all exhibits on Ellis Island are now closed until further notice (hopefully sometime later this year). The museum has not fully reopened after being flooded by Hurricane Sandy. So you can walk around the hall and that's about it. There's nothing much to see there right now, so if this is meant to be a highlight of a short trip, you may be disappointed and may want to skip it entirely.

Mondays are often more crowded at the Statue of Liberty because many museums are closed (though the biggest are now open 7 days). But Easter week is typically one of the most crowded in New York, so if you have not already pre-booked a reservation, you will have to stand in line for hours to get to see the museum and statue.

thank you Doug.. I mean Ellis Island.. my great grandfather came through Ellis Island (as of course did every great grandfather) and it is worth the trip for me.. I checked the site and they said that there are a few things available so we would like to go.. maybe Friday is better then.. I realize it is going to be crowded and have been told by a New Yorker I work with to buy all tickets before we get there to reduce the wait time..
