Best crab cakes in DC and Annapolis area

Where are the best places for crab cakes in the Washington DC area and in the Annapolis/Kent Island area?

The best are in Baltimore (and this is in the opinion of both me and my husband, who grew up in Norfolk). Go to a place called the Lexington Market -- there is a seafood restaurant in the back, for some reason I think it's Phillips but I could be wrong. They have a deep-fried cake that is also breaded -- although my husband was a purist and did not approve of breading, he changed his mind when he had one of these. You will too. Yummmmm.

mscarls,

This may be farther than you're willing to drive but EVERYTIME I'm in Annapolis I go to Stoney's Seafood House on Broome Island in Prince Frederick...And I go there just for the crab cakes!
I realize that's a solid 50 - 60 miles but if you happen to find yourself anywhere near there, make a side-trip.

I've never had better and I've never had even close to their equal. Yes, they're really that good.

I'm thinking of driving there right now from Colorado!

Hi

Stoney's DOES have a gooood crab cake and they've also added a second restaurant a wee bit closer in Prince Frederick Maryland (right on Rt 2).

In Annapolis one of the very best crab cakes (probably #1 on my list is the Kent Narrows restaurant on Kent Island. Harris' Crab House on Kent Island has good crab cakes too.
In Annapolis the Seaside Seafood restaurant in Glen burnie has gooood crab cakes. O'Bryckie's restaurant in Baltimore as well as Bo Brooks restaurant have great cakes.

In Lanham Maryland (next to Washington DC) a crab bomb is made at Jerry's Seafood and it's fantastic.

Phillips used to be good but I think as they expanded from Ocean City to Baltimore, DC, and Annapolis, they started losing a lot of their greatness. It's more breading than filling now whereas a really gooood crab cake should be lump backfin crabmeat.

Do I make you hungry??

If you are resigned to staying close in, Legal Seafood has a very good crab cake.

BEST crab cake I ever had was at the Annapolis Boat show. Someone was selling them through a fence.

Outstanding!

My favorite place for crabcakes is G&M in Linthicum, not too far from BWI. I usually take my sister there to stock up before she flies back to Colorado. The places isn't much for atmosphere but their crabcakes are the best.

As a resident of the Wye River, I second the notion of the Narrows Restaurant's excellent crab cakes. If you are willing to drive a little longer and see some lovely countryside, let me suggest the Robert Morris Inn in Oxford or Harrison's on Tilghman Island. Both places make much better crab cakes than anywhere west of the Chesapeake Bay. As we say on the Shore, "There Ain't No Life West of the Chesapeake Bay"!!!!!

Jimmy Canthers Crabouse--"somewhere" around Annapolis --friend drove so I didn't pay attention!!!
IMO best ever Robert Morris Inn in Oxford MD. Iknow it is a bit of a drive but the added atmosphere of the Inn is worth it...You can shorten the drive by turning as if to go to
St. Michaels and turning at "Oxford Ferry" sign..Ferry carries 3-4 ? cars bicycles and walk ons over small Bay and drops you at Robert Morris Inn.
Also Kent Narrows restaurant very good and much closer to Annapolis.
Reference to place is Baltimore very interesting-will try it next time in the area,,
Good luck

Has anyone had the crab cakes at Crisfield's in Silver Spring or RT's in Arlington recently? Are they still good?

The Ferry from Oxford to Bellvue can carry as many as 8 or 9 cars, packed right. My wife and kids take the Ferry every year for a feast of crab cakes. Good fun for all. Also delicious are the Chesapeake fries and onion rings, fried in batter laced with Old Bay. The Apple Butter is a delicious appetizer at the Morris.

Hella's off of I-97, north of Annapolis has the best crabcakes- no fillers, huge and all crab! The place is not fancy and lacks atmosphere but the crab cakes are the best. I do not recommend Phillips in Annapolis.

I had lunch at Hella's in Millersville, MD. The absolutely best crabcake I've ever had. This was my second time there and I'd forgotten what a gem this place was. Conveniently located off of I-97. Worth a ride!

Well thanks Liketotravel and Arora!! I pass Hella's often - couple times a month and have not stopped there. Guess I'll be stopping on my next trip to Severna Park.

mscarls,

The crabcakes at Crisfield's are mediocre - when were they good?? Don't know about RT's. The best in the DC area (just outside the Beltway) is Jerry's Seafood - no contest. I have trouble finishing the crab bomb - you might consider the baby bomb unless you are confident of your appetite.

A review and the website at Jerry's.

This may seem unusual but one of the best I've had is at the Galway Bay Irish restaurant. They use a recipe by "Miss Peggy', an employee who worked for years at The Little Campus which turned into Galway Bay a couple of years ago. Cantlers out on the water is pretty good but it's very crowded in the summer. I too would not recommend Phillips.
