Best Cheap Eats in (or near) the French Quarter?
Planning a family trip to New Orleans in the spring and we are staying in the French Quarter. I have lived and visited New Orleans so am pretty familiar, but just want to make sure there isn't something special that isn't yet on my radar. Here is my list of where we plan to get grub on our visit:
Cafe du Monde
Acme
Felix's
Johnny's Po Boy
Gumbo Shop
Central Grocery (muffelettas)
Mothers
Brennan's (brunch)
Commander's Palace (special dinner on the last night)
Every place is a long time favorite, with the exception of Gumbo Shop and Felix's, which may be negotiable. Is there any place I am missing?

I like Remoulade - "the casual side of Arnaud's"

I like La Divina's muffalino better than the traditional muffaletta. Their other paninis are great as well as their gelato and Italian ices

My favorite po'boys at Cooter Brown's at the Riverbend (take the streetcar out there)

Stop on the way back and stroll to Magazine Street and Sucre

Not "cheap" but oysters at Dragos are a must stop -

Cheap, and good po boys.
Go to the Art Museum, then out to Liuzza's and see if you can do a cemetery tour @ St Louis #3.

Not cheap, but the next time I go back to NOLA I'm definitely heading to Pascal's Manale for their BBQ shrimp. They invented the dish and after trying it at other restaurants on the last three trips (sorry Muriel's and others) I've decided that the best is at the original.

I don't know if they have a kid's menu. If not, it is probably way too pricey for what you are looking for. But for me, PM's shrimp is as iconic as CdM's beignets.

Full of butter so definitely a splurge meal, but still my favorite NOLA dish.

starrs,
DH and I went to Pascal Manale's the first time we visited NOLA together. Love BBQ'd shrimp - I have a great recipe my mom acquired when we lived there - LOTS of butter!!
I was also just on Sucre's website and it says they are opening a location on Conti in the French Quarter this month.

My NOLA friend made it once and it was amazing. The recipe is available; it's just not the thing one makes often. But maybe...
Which makes me wonder why Muriel's, etc. can't make it right.
I adore Sucre. If you need to take gifts back for any reason they used to package the macarons of your choice in the cutest little paper "handbag".
This reminded me to order their King Cake! Delivery scheduled for Feb. 6th. Can't wait!

sf, I bet it is. The po'boys are to die for. HUGE!
When I started working LA in the 80s the local rep would take us to hole-in-the-wall restaurants with cinder block walls and oyster shell parking lots (that tore up the heels of my pumps) and the po-boys there were amazing. Those were my first po-boys and it wasn't until Cooter Brown until I found one that was as good as I remembered.
I need to go back and try the muffletta too.
What amazed me was all the working folks who were there for their lunch break, playing pool, eating good food and even enjoying a draft beer. Made me want to move to NOLA.

Yes, and their boiled brisket is featured on the walking and tasting tour of NOLA. When I took the tour it was the last stop before a cooking lesson on making roux.
