I'm looking for a good campground in Wisconsin - not one that is in a state park where your "spot" is marked and you're awakened at 6am by the screaming kids next to you (no offense - just not what we're looking for now) and have full bathrooms and showers. I've camped on Lake Superior on grassy grounds overlooking the lake & am looking for something similar to this. Does anyone know of a good one - within about 4-5 hours of Milwaukee??
Best Campground??

WI state and county campgrounds are the best but....
Just a handfull have showers and they are the most popular places. That means that those are the spots with families, etc. The private campgrounds with facilities usually have a bunch of kids.
Soooo...you can choose: quiet and serenity in the woods OR the comforts of showers complete with lots of other folks.
One of the best camping experiences I have had in WI is on the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. You need a boat but camp on established spots on islands. Bath in the lake. Be prepared with all your requirements like water, firewood, TP, etc. Not only secluded, quiet and dark....but free as well!
