Best Brooklyn Walking Tour

Looking for a Brooklyn walking tour for next weekend. Its my hubby's 45th birthday and he lived in Brooklyn till he was 11 - I thought is would be fun! (he has lived in Miami ever since he left!)

There are a few different companies that offer multiple tours.

Which company to pick?
Which tour to pick?
( He didn't live in one of the neighborhoods featured on the tours. )

We walked the Bridge 3 summers ago from Manhattan and grabbed ice cream at Brooklyn ice cream factory and took the ferry back to midtown. SO we have wandered a bit in this area - is that DUMBO??

I think a tour is more fun that doing it ourselves.....great guides are usually a wealth of information!!
Thanks!!!

Hoping the weather cooperates!!

You don't need a tour, just a subway map.
Walk from Seagate to Brighton Beach;
Take B1 to Manhattan Beach, walk Emmons ave;
Take the Q to Kings Highway, walk to Ocean ave;
Take the B6 to Cropsey ave(Best Buy) at end of Bay Parkway, walk to Verazzano Bridge;
Walk the Promenade,
On 86st you will find Lenny's Pizzeria where John Travolta stopped to get a slice in 'SNF'. There is a photo of him and Stallone on the wall.

I agree,MBM.

http://www.foodsofny.com does great tours, but I've only done the ones in Manhattan. While they are food oriented, they do a good job of giving you a feel for the history and architecture of the areas they cover.

That tour looks great elberko...but 4 and 1.2 hours.....Thats too long for this trip. We are only there for the weekend. Id like something 3 hours and under....

Any other ideas?? Doesnt have to be food based. Im a veggie and its probably things I wont eat (except if its beer and chocolate....then Im just perfect!!)

What companies did you find, MBM?

BTW, the vegetarian on the tour I went on got alternate choices, and was happy.

I've gone on a number of Manhattan tours with Joyce Gold and thought they were really interesting (and not too long). Her Brooklyn tours are by appointment only. You might check with her. If she can't do a Brooklyn tour when you're there, she could probably recommend someone. http://joycegoldhistorytours.com/NYC....html#brooklyn
