Best and Safest Views of SF Bay Bridge Lights

Headed up to SF - my wife and I plan to view the new array of computerized lights on the Bay Bridge - obviously, because of night viewing, we hope to see the light show in a public, safe, easy to navigate location...any suggestions are welcome

Keep in mind that the light show is only on the north side of the bridge, so you have to be looking south. The view from just south of the Ferry Building is spectacular (so is the view from the Golden Gate Bridge, but you have to be driving across at night, and of course, can't stop on the bridge - I imagine the view from the parking area at the end of the bridge is great, but haven't been myself).

(If you want to spend some money on overpriced food in a nice setting, you could eat or have drinks at the Epic Roasthouse or Waterbar for what I'm certain would be a sensational view of the lights).
