Best accomodation in LA on a budget
Hello everyone,
I'm planning a visit to LA next year for 4 nights in May. My budget is around $100 - $ 140 per night and I need accomodation with parking(preferably free).
Don't really mind what area we stay in as we're hiring a car, but somewhere not to far from the main tourist attractions with a few restaurants/bars around would be ideal.
Any suggestions of where to stay would be greatly appreciated as there is just so much choice!

Most of the hotels around LAX are pretty nice and many would fit your budget. Some but not all do offer free parking.
Do some research.
I believe I've stayed at Hampton Inn or similar some years ago. I only needed 1 night, before connecting to my next flight to Australia.
The location is great especially if you have a car. You're 1/2 way between LA and looking south, El Sagundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, etc.

I'd recommend checking Trip Advisor. In the Los Angeles forum, you can click on "Hotels" and "Budget" and you will find several pages of budget hotels.
FWIW, we were apartment hunting (not sightseeing) and stayed at the Super 8 North Hollywood. The area, which is perfectly safe, didn't look like much, but the hotel was clean and comfortable. There was free parking, free coffee and donuts, free internet, and the rates were under $100 per night. We didn't find much in the way of restaurants nearby, but there's plenty within a short drive.

How many people? Do you need a pool?
Figueroa Hotel doesn't have free parking, but doesn't charge much for that. The rooms are small (it used to be a Y). It isn't really that inexpensive anymore, and they don't post their rates on the internet. Downtown Los Angeles hotel rates vary tremendously, depending on whether there is a convention or an event, weekends are usually a time to get good room rates but you will always pay for parking.
I wouldn't stay right on Century Blvd near the airport but if you look in El Segundo, Manhattan Beach and Hawthorne there are some good suites hotels with rates under $150 and free parking. They overbuilt for the business trade, so competition is high. Eg I see refundable rates for $140 including taxes and parking for the Hawthorne Suites in Manhattan Beach (on Expedia).
Note that hotel tax can be quite high, in Los Angeles and Santa Monica as much as 14%, and parking can run up to $40. Be sure to figure taxes and parking in when you price your options.
