Please don't call it "Philly". San Francicans don't like to hear "Frisco" either!

I lived in Philly for years in days of old and never heard about people not liking to hear Philly. Everybody said Philly. Who says Philadelphia cheese steaks, the Philadephia Phlash, or Philadelphia Joe Jones?? And I've never heard anybody from South Philly say they're from South Philadelphia.

Sorry I can't help with the B and B, though.

Sorry for upsetting you but in previous visits to my friends in New Jersey I have often heard it refered to as Philly.

Chris: I've lived in Philly, yes PHILLY, for 51 years, actually now a PHILLY suburb, and everyone who lives here calls it Philly. No need for an apology.

I don't know anything about the Rittenhouse B&B, but it looks nice from the website. If you don't want to stay in the city, there are many B&B's in the PHILLY suburbs which are quite nice. There are also B&B's in New Hope and Lambertville which are approx. 45 min. - 1 hour from Philly. If you do want to stay in the city check out bedandbreakfast.com. There are a few there, but PHILLY is not really a B&B town. However, there are very nice hotels in the city. Good luck!

Nancy has summed it up quite nicely. No problem with Philly. Of course everyone calls the city Philly. There are nice hotels in Philly but the B&B's are more noted in the outskirts where the towns are quaint, scenic, and perfect for outdoor lovers. New Hope would be your best bet. If you are looking more for a city adventure, then of course you wouldn't want New Hope or Lambertville right across from New Hope on the Jersey side.

We lived near Rittenhouse Square in 98/99 and happened to walk past the Rittenhouse B&B just before it opened. The owner graciously gave us a tour of the entire place and spent an hour with us just chatting about their hopes for the B & B. It was quite elegant and the owners seemed determined to provide quality from top to bottom. I believe Oprah has since stayed there, perhaps even hosting some kind of PJ party and renting out the whole place.

I also grew up in Jersey right outside of PHILLY and have never heard anyone from the area refer to it as anything but. Now I live in the city and of course, what do you think natives call it? PHILLY!

Try the Penns View Inn. Not exactly a B&B; it's a small hotel with b'fast. Also has one of the best wine bars in Philly. Good location too.
