The real icee and I have been counting down for two years for our fifth Kauai vacation. We got Kauaiitis on our very first visit to The Garden Isle and just cannot get enough of this beautiful island and it's wonderful people.
Most of you know that I have been packing and unpacking and repacking for two months prior to our trip. I should have tried some of my shorts on before leaving. Even tho I am still plump and round, I lost a few pounds before our trip and my fat shorts were falling off of me and made me look even fatter than I am. I also realize that I do not need to be wearing anymore sleeveless tops! Ok, enough of the fashion nonsense!.
Since others (gmac, rncheryl, poipulady, ronda, barbara-to name a few) have recently been to Kauai and written such wonderful reports, I will be brief and just touch on a few housekeeping items.
I awoke on our first morning at 4:45 a.m. to the most beautiful music in the world. It was the sweetest male voice I have ever heard. The song he was singing was "Cock-A-Doodle-Doo". You Kauai lovers know just how sweet this sound is on your first wake up on Kauai! Now, this sound becomes less sweet as vacation progresses!!
RENTAL CAR
We rented our Chevy Trailblazer through Alamo using discount codes from Costco and Alamo. Our total for two weeks with all taxes was $530 which also included $55 for a tank of gas. This is one time we might have done the right thing by taking this option since we locked in our price at $2.53/gallon and when we left gas was $2.74/gallon. Our car got sick, the engine light came on after about 4 days and we had to take it back and swap it for another. No problems. Excellent customer service. They swapped it out right away without us having to go back to the counter. It was just an inconvenience since we were in Haena when the light came on and we had an hour's drive back to Lihue. The only problem with Alamo is that they always try to upsell. We just politely kept saying no, no, no.
ACCOMMODATIONS
The first stop was on the east side at Pono Kai. We have stayed at Pono Kai everytime we have been to Kauai, and it just wouldn't be vacation without staying there. Only stayed here for three nights, and we had a nice ocean front 2 br with a loft. It was nice to have a/c even if the bed was hard as a brick!
Our next seven nights were spent on the north shore at Wyndham Bali Hai Villas in Princeville. We also had a 2 br with another hard bed! The unit was beautiful(even tho we were in an older unit that had not been renovated). We did not have a/c, but with the tradewinds blowing, we were never uncomfortable. Plus, they brought us a fan upon our arrival that we didn't even take out of the box. The only complaint we had here was the toddler above us sounded like a little elephant that only had one speed.........run fast, constantly. The gardens and pool area here are beautiful. We enjoyed staying on the north shore, but if we stay again, we will stay where we can overlook the gorgeous blue Pacific.
The last four nights we went south to The Marriott Waiohai. Another 2 br condo, but this time with a great comfortable bed. We enjoyed our first time to stay on the south and would definitely stay there again.
ACTIVITIES
No planned activities this trip, we have done them all before, except for the zipline which I may try to get up my nerve to do next trip! Everyone we talked to loved this adventure!
We did a lot of sight seeing and kicking back on the beach and at the pool. Mainly, we just drove and oohed and ahhed and wondered how much more beauty our eyes could absorb. It's just beautiful everywhere you look.
My favorite place on the island is still The Kiluea Lighthouse. I could just stay there and gaze forever. Our favorite beach is still Anini Beach on the north, however, we both certainly loved Poipu Beach.
EATS
We ate out at least once most every day....some of the places...
Kapaa and Lihue:
Olympic Cafe was ok. Charlie had an ahi sandwich and I had fish tacos.
Verdes was good. We had ahi tacos.
Kauai Pasta in Kapaa was good, but the a/c was broken the night we went and it was extremely uncomfortable. Kinda put a damper on a place we have both loved in the past.
BBQ Inn was very good. We both had fish
Monico's was excellent, tho I think a little pricey.
Hamura's was good. The lilikoi pie was better than the saimen!!!
North Shore:
CJ's Steakhouse in Princeville was very good. I think this is one of the few times we have eaten steak on Kauai!
Bouchon's (formerly Sushi Blues) was ok.
Bubba's cured the hunger pain and was good for the day that I needed a grease fix.
Hanalei Gourmet was excellent.
Kilauea Lighthouse Bakery was excellent.
Tropical Dreams Ice Cream was wonderful!!!! You get good ice cream and entertainment. Trust me, after this ice cream, you will never never ever ever eat Lappert's again. We did try Lapper'ts just for a comparison and there is NO comparison. Tropical Dreams is outstanding.
Hanalei Dolphin was very good. The best thing about this was the company we shared. This was the night we met rnchery and her dh.
A funny story- at Hanalei Dolphin there is also a fish market behind the restaurant. One afternoon (after lunch and before dinner) we decided we would check to see what the fish market had. There was a kid at the back of the restaurant sitting on a bench rolling a joint. He never even knew we were sitting watching him! He didn't fire it up and offer us a toke, but when we came out of the fish market, I saw him walking out toward the river with another person!! Charlie figures he was just rolling a cigarrette!!!!! Yeah, right!
We had drinks at the Westin Pool Bar with rncheryl and her dh, and with gmac and her dh and ever so cute 3 yo son! They have a $5 drink special every day and the day we went it was a Blue Hawaiian. They also have a beer special which was either $2 or $3. We loved meeting our new/old Fodor's friends. The Westin personnel probably exhibited the least aloha spirit than any place we encountered. That's another story and I will tell it later.
OTHER EATS
Gaylord's was outstanding. We went for their Sunday brunch buffet. If you go there, be sure to try their ahi benedict. Superb. I like a brunch where they prepare your eggs to order instead of having to eat the cold scrambled eggs off a buttet! Their bread pudding was unforgettable also.
Keoki's was excellent. This was probably my favorite meal because of the excellent fish dish we had. We both had opakapaka prepared with a parmasan crusted something or other. I'm not a huge parmasan lover, but this was not overpowering and really complimented the fish which was moist and succulent.
Roy's was also excellent. I wish I hadn't ordered a Hawaiian martini which was $8 or $9 and just tasted like pineapple juice that wasn't even well chilled. I like my martinis cold!! But, the food was excellent and it was a great final dinner.
Jojo's Aneunue Shaved Ice--yes, it says shaved! This is on the side street around the corner from JoJo's clubhouse on the main road. Excellent as always.
OTHER
We did a little bit of shopping.
My package from Aunty Lilikoi just now arrived. The best way to buy her products is to have them ship for you. We bought mustards and jellies.
Kapaia Stitchery is a great sewing shop. I bought some fabric remanants to do some gift wrapping.
The lumber company just down the road from the stitchery place is awesome. They have beautiful Kauai made koa wood items. I sat in a $4000 rocking chair. It rocked and looked like a million dollars. The real icee bought a piece of koa wood to try his hand at some carving.
We visited my friend, Juny, and bought a couple of new pendants and earrings from him. He carves the opihi shell. Amazing work and an amazing person. A store in Hanalei, Evolve Love, sells his jewelry. The merchant commented on my beautiful "Juny Jewelry" as soon as I entered her store.
THE END
This was probably the saddest I have ever been to leave Kauai. The airport provides entertainment and I couldn't hold back the tears when they sang "Beautiful Kauai".
Well, this was longer than I intended, but hopefully you have enjoyed this report and now my friends, hopefully you will enjoy a few of our uncaptioned pictures:

<<He carves the opihi shell>>
OH Icee, my daughter got a necklace from one of the lifeguards at Poipu Beach for her graduation from College when we were there and it is the Opihi Shell also. He makes them also. It is so beautiful! AHHH Kauai - I can't wait 9 more months to go - I am ready NOW
I just blew off everysingledanged word you wrote and cut to the pictures. When I saw you at 'our friendship' brick I got a little Irish tear in the eye. I will always have Kealalani, and you will always have me.
Now off to the wordy funny part!!! I know I will giggle and smile and just feel better.
xo
g
I loved your trip report! My DH & I have been to Kauai twice and also have "Kauaiitis"!! We just can't get enough and just adore Kauai!
We are going back October 3-11 and we are counting down!! 4 months and 2 days!! Can't wait! It's been two years since we have been...too long!!
you lived under a baby elephant! snort!
iceeu2:
How often did you travel to Kauai over the course of five visits?
When would you like to go back?!
Where else have you traveled?
Just curious. I'm obsessed with traveling as I'm sure everyone on this board might be!
It is easy to get around Kauai right now as there are not as many people travelling as usual. Kauai is definitely feeling the decline of the economy and sadly crime is on the rise. There was an article in the newspaper on our last day about crime and what it is doing to the island.
Now, for the reason I didn't think the people at the Westin exhibited the true aloha spirit.
I had walked over to the Westin one afternoon because we wanted to find a nice place for our gtg with Cheryl and Gayle. I talked to a lady who told me about a Mixology Class at the bar adjacent to the restaurant. Anyway, the class was $10 per person. The bartender teaches you to mix the first drink and she mixes the next drink, making your drinks $5/drink. On this particular day, they were planning to make mai tais. Ok, the short version is....the class was supposed to start at 5 p.m. At about 5:15 p.m. I was talking to the bartender and asking questions about the class. She told me we could could sit down and she would do it, and that she usually did the class until 6 p.m...giving people time to relax and enjoy their cocktails. Anyway, I asked her if we could wait until 5:30 because that's when my friends would be there. Her answer was NO, probably not. The restaurant opens at 5:30 and I will be busy. I was the only person even pretending to want a drink at her bar and no one was roaming around the restaurant area. Seems to me you would want to maximize your revenues in these tough time. She just threw a for sure $60 bill out the window, never mind a nice tip!
Not the aloha spirit, example #2 is.......my friend gmac and her husband were looking at the activities sheet at the Westin. There was a thing called "Parents' Night Out" where they keep your little one for a couple of hours and pay them $30. gmac and her dh wanted to do this and have dinner in the restaurant at The Westin. Because they weren't staying there, the conceirge said NO! Another example of losing $30 for the baby sitter, plus losing a $100 dinner tab.
I guess $200(both instances) isn't an important piece of change for the Westin, but you would think in this economy, you would want to maximize your revenues to the fullest.
Oh well, we had their $5 drinks instead and we all only had one each.
gyppielou, Another reason that my trip report was not very comical was because I got sick for six days at the beginning of the trip and then the real icee just had to copy me and had to be sick also!! He had a sebaceous cyst that had to be lanced, and then felt puny from the sulpher, sulpha sic drugs. This very same thing happened to him six years ago on Kauai. Looks like we would learn!!
we stayed at westin last year and trust me, even if you are staying there, they (espcially at that bar) don't have much aloha spirit!
we are not staying there again for this year's trip!
You think your report was too LONG?? I say...too SHORT!!
I am glad to know that I am not the only person who moves from place to place on-island. Much better than long day trips. Loved your photos. The scenics are nice, but my favorites are those smiling faces of people enjoying the beauty of Kauai, and the joy of friendship.
Thanks, Barbara. This is my favorite photo of the whole trip. From the looks on our faces, it appears we are long time friends instead of those just meeting for the first time, doesn't it?
http://picasaweb.google.com/iceeu22/KauaiMay2009?feat=directlink#5342034920312462802
We may have not been long time friends before the picture, but hopefully we are now
Great report..I'll have get a necklace the next time!
Aloha Iceeu2!
Great report..sorry to hear that the Westin didn't have that Aloha spirit..I would call Westin customer service and let them know..that is something they need to get squared away, asap.
So crime is on the rise..yikes..hopefully you all are ok.
Great pictures too..we'll be there in September..still waiting for flights prices to come down.
Well, that does it! I'm going! Loved your photos! Loved the brick! You know, I have never seen it, so thanks sooooooooooo much for taking a picture of it. I'm gonna use it on my profile page. Who's the hot wahine in the hot tub with the nice flotation device?
How did she find that loverly brick amongst so many. She is one fun wahine. I'd say that since she keeps sleeping on beds that feel like a brick, we should hereforth name thee
BrickHouse ---oh mighty mighty
kealalani, sistahlou, gyppielou.......the real icee started helping me look for the brick. He started at one end so I went to the center and wala........our brick was front and center! How cool is that?? You should have heard me! "Here it is! Here it is! Bring the camera!" There was this one guy that was looking and looking and looking for his brick. And, it was hot out there. He still hadn't found it when we walked back down.
i'2
billyboy, I think the three of us should use that brick on our profile pages! The hot wahine is gmac from Cleveland, OH. She's a great person and that cool little dude is her son. The other cool hot dude is her dh!
Since Charlie had an old folks pass for the National Parks, we didn't have to pay to go to the lighthouse. You should have Marteen get one. I don't remember if the age is 60 or 62. We bought it when we went to Yellowstone and I believe he can take 3 additional people with him.
And, since none of you have defended me and said I am not so horribly fat and obese, I am going to make a photo tomorrow in my new shorts that fit and don't look like men's underwear!!!
Aloha
I called you a 'brick house" Now if that's not a compliment! you look and are fantastic. I especially loved that picture of you at. . .
I told you that I liked your flotation device! What more do you want me to say!? That island is the best damn hell-hole there is. Thanks for posting.
she does have a mighty fine rack! and I would know!!!
Oh...and what's wrong with men's underwear?
http://www.andrewchristianshop.com/Almost-Naked-Boxer-PID9196-9119.aspx
sheeeeesh, and you have a mighty fine package iamq, and again, I would know!!!
Why thankyou my dearest darling gyppieloulou.
damn, bbq!!! I think my man needs some of these!
You guys just wait until the year 2013! Be there!
Wow, you love Uncle Juny's carved opihi shell jewelry too!
I didn't know he had some at a store in Hanalei - I usually find him at crafts shows he does on island through
the year. His work is totally unique and special - my favorite is a yellow plumeria carved out of an opihi shell with the green in the surround. People here know his work when you wear it for sure!
wahine, he will be at whatever celebration you all have in the south on July 4th. I don't know when it was written, but I have an article from Kaua'i Island News that tells about him and how and why he started doing this. btw, I have the yellow plumeria(bought it two years ago from him) that you describe and I wore it yesterday. My very favorite is the first piece I bought from him...an octopus.
to wahine again...here's a great photo of Juny and his wife at The Merrie Monarch Festival. It clearly shows the yellow plumeria pendant.
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_AQuOfHx35XY/Se9qfr2dRuI/AAAAAAAAAj0/_4xxV1PGX-8/s1600-h/juny.jpg
Loved your report and pictures!
What a great report! I am diving into the photos now!
GoT, you have to get your sweet bippy over these here islands someday!
Not a single flippin one of you has asked me about the pig pictures. Aloha
I do love your Hanalei Bay sunset pictures. What's with the pig?
I was too distracted by the tie dye tshirt
Oh, and thanks for the tip for the National Parks Pass. We're headed to Yosemite this summer, so he'll get one there. It is a great deal.
You bought the pig for marteen to roast at the bikini and speedo and mumu burn the blue book bbq at the beach 2013 extravaganza bring your own fireworks pig roast?
That poor little piggie will be plump and ready for the festivities in four years! I see it turning on a spit with a big red apple in its mouth.
The little piggy is a one month old wild boar that was found on the golf course. You know, they are very destructive and good only for plumping up and .............. yep, I see a pig pickin coming on!
When I saw your pictures the first thing that came to my mind was that you went to the Humane Society like we did LOL
Iceeu2 -- that's Uncle Juny alright - and the same pendant that I have - I love it and I also have an anthirium one with red - at the Koloa Plantation Days he usually has a booth - that is when I target getting a new piece from him normally!
That isn't too far off - next month!
Hey wahine, when you see him tell him that Donna and Charlie (Margot's friends) from Georgia said hello. He is nice enough that he will act like he knows who you are talking about!! He and the real icee talk hunting and fishing and bore the crap out of me!! Also, be sure to ask him if the baby boar has gone to the spit yet!!
gyppie, we were in Hanalei where you MUST wear tie dye!
"The little piggy is a one month old wild boar that was found on the golf course. You know, they are very destructive and good only for plumping up and .............. yep, I see a pig pickin coming on!"
Just in time for the 2013 Luau celebration of Iceeu2 in her bikini??
lol, gmac!!!! You guys just wait!!! You will not believe the bikini and speedo exhibition. Be there!
icee... you are my fav... absolute fav wahine of all time... I look at your pix and cry at how lovely you portray the k9's.
makai
sorry gyppie... icee has the mirror ball thophy for this event!
You are lovely. You are too fun. And you are my all time favorite.
I miss you!!
Love and aloha.
This is so timely, because I just returned from Kauai and the Westin, Princeville. They are really struggling to survive, from what I can surmise. The restaurant is closing for breakfast in another 10 days. That seemed so odd to me. What do they expect their guests to do?

They are not the friendliest staff, for sure. Our unit was wonderful - absolutely great - huge, efficient, and comfortable in every respect....except that parking is about a half mile from the units and that is no fun at all. And you can't see the ocean from most units. (It is a timeshare resort.)
I only go to Kauai for the beaches, so I prefer the resort to be on the beach. We stayed at the Westin as part of the arrangements for a wonderful wedding we were attending, so the lack of a beach was tolerable. And because there are many wonderful beaches all over the island, I decided to enjoy my comfy surroundings and drive to the beaches. I love Hanalei Bay and all the beaches right to the end of the road! I like Annini, but not quite as much as some others.
Loved our dinner at Postcards Cafe!!!!
And Bubba's did fill a certain need one day
Another Postcards fan!
iceeu2 - I will certainly tell Uncle that when I see him in July - and knowing him, whether or not he remembers you, he will be gracious and say kind things - a true Hawaiian gentleman! I've been trying to get him to do a crafts table at our Hula Ho'ike in February for years now, but he is pretty set in what events he partakes in - as I said, I'm looking forward to Koloa Plantation Days!
Iceeu2,
Thanks for posting the trip report and photos, especially of the opihi pendant. Your pics brought back memories, especially of Hanalei Bay and the pier. 17 more days. Woohoo!!!
Hi Hanalei...so what good priceline one nighter did you score this time???? I always bid and bid on priceline when I need a few nights(and am never successful on Kauai) and then I see where you get a great place!! I love the photo at the pier where the kids are all sitting side by side waiting for the sunset. Have a wonderful time in 17 more days!!

Not the usual chuckles, but I enjoyed your report & pictures as much as ever, iceeu2. I trust you guys are healthy & feeling better now. I may have to start saving my pennies for that bikini fest in 2013! But, you'll have to promise me you guys are done with the getting sick on your vacations!
Also, I missed it if you said earlier - where is the brick located?
Hi OSB, the brick is at The Kilauea Lighthouse. Sorry this does not have as many chuckles as in the past. I guess if you had returned the blasted crown in good shape instead of losing some of the jewels, it might have been a different story! We're finished being sick on vacation, so save your sheckles for July, 2013! There will be a pahtee going on in Hanalei and Kapaa and Koloa and just all over that Garden Isle!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In the words of one great president, " There you go again...."
loved your pictures.
you looked fabulous - not fat! - and sooo happy.
i'm curious, what is the story behind the brick?
Well, thank you abranz. Aren't you nice?
A few years ago they were doing a preservation project at the lighthouse and sold bricks to raise money. iamq, gyppielou and I each threw $25 each into the pot to help the cause.
good friends
good cause
good times
indeed
!!!
good friends indeed....and, if I would proofread, I would see that each is duplicated!!!!
I will sprinkle the brick with plumeria blossoms and do a hula around the brick when we are there next summer.
iceeu2,
Thanks for the report and making me hanker for another trip to the Ole Hellhole.
We have stayed at the Waiohai several times and enjoyed it. What did you think of it? Are they keeping it up nicely? We were always treated very well by all of the employees. For awhile it was hard to get a room there but I noticed last time I was fanatasy planning they seemed to have lots of rooms available.
bbq, I want a photo of you doing the hula around the brick!!
Mary2go, yes, they are keeping the Waiohai up very nicely. The next time we will ask for a garden view room instead of an ocean glimpse view!!
Hey wahine..........if you see Juny tomorrow be sure to tell him that Donna & Charlie from GA said hello. And....ask about the baby boar!! Aloha.
Aloha from Kaua'i!
The actual Koloa Plantation Days crafts event that he attends isn't until Sat., July 25 - so plenty of time before then!
OK, icee, first let me say that no one can say if you're thin or fat or somewhere in between. You just can't see anything past that SMILE!!! You & your girlfriends are lovely! AND, you are killing me! You see, I work in the school system & your pictures are making me want my summer to fly by so that I can get to August and KAUAI!! I can't wait to go now. Problem is that when I get back, summer's over. I was trying not to rush it, but then, there you are with those photos! Geez, summer, hurry up already!
Virgin, I have forgotten where you are staying. August will be here very soon. You are going to love love love love love love Kauai.
We're staying at Islander on the Beach. We have an oceanfront room. My DH wanted beachfront for our morning constitutionals. I can't wait. Haven't even been there yet & I love Kauai!
Is the Shrimp Station still there? That's my best food memory from our 2004 Kauai trip.
I loved Molokai because it was so small and quiet but Kauai has the food. We did eat well there, no doubt about it.
Yes, the Shrimp Station is still there. And, there is a place across the street that has seafood tacos that are supposed to be very good.
Hey wahine! What did you buy from Juny????
Can't keep a good post hidden! How are you guys? Every morning when I wash my face with orchid/vanilla soap from Kiluea Candle place, I take a fast trip back to paradise.
Hi Cheryl! It's hard to get rid of that "Kauai Bug" when it strikes, isn't it?
I loved reading this thread as my niece is moving to Kauai in October with her husband and family. They are not sure where they will buy but probably on the north side.
She can not wait to move there as she fell in love with the island years ago. They are selling everything in NY and drive across country and flying out from CA.
The only reason for October to move is she had to get shots for her dogs and has to wait otherwise the dogs can not go with her.
Wow, travelbug44, isn't that a dream come true?!
Yes icee, I have gone from Kauai withdrawal ICU to the step down unit. But still withdrawing. What is it like there in July/August?
I kind of glazed over on the magic words ---- "ahi benedict". I am soooooo there. I have no idea where Gaylords is -- but as soon as I post this I'm heading to Google pronto!
"What is it like there in July/August?"
It is hot, crowded, buggy and more boring than ever! ACKKK.
And, we will all be there for the bikini/speedo exhbition in JULY, 2013!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another newbie here. I have visited this forum as a guest several times and thinking that this forum will help me. I am glad that I have decided to join your community and I know that you guys will be a lot of help to me as I learn more about kauai. I hope that I will be able to help you guys here as well with a bit of knowledge. Have a good one.

Olesouthernbelle, Yes, for her it is. She has lost a child a few years ago and has since adopted 2 special needs children. She her sons, daughter, son in law, and husband are leaving everything behind and following their dreams. God bless them for having the courage.
I second that, travelbug44. Good wishes on them!
Iceeu2--you're killing me, this thread is still going? Giving me Kauai withdrawl again!
With a little bit of luck we'll get it up to 100 in no time!
I wanna know what irenewhite's advertisement for helicopter tours is doing here? Sort of mucks things up, don't ya think?
gmac, you're just excited about the year 2013!!!!
Still counting down to 2013. Those pesky pounds keep adding on; how is one to think about bikini/speedo thoughts. Hi GMAC, how's the baby?
Hey gmac and cheryl.......the BIG party will be at iamq's and marteen's place in Hanalei. They are rich Californians, ya know!

Cheryl, you don't know nothin about those pesky pounds!!!!!
yes, dear irenewhite did kinda muck things up didn't she?
Here's the place:
http://www.kauaivacationrentals.com/book/houseP.html?User=KVR22021&Num=128&Name=Avery&Type=Homes&Avail=&Stay= &CF=
Will that do?
Totally, for sure!

I hope my friends cheryl and gmac like it tho....they are pretty high falutin!
Not sure it is close enough to the water, know what I mean?
They can't be as picky as you or gyppielou.
You're right rncheryl. This one looks a little closer.
http://www.kauaivacationrentals.com/book/houseP.html?User=KVR30800&Num=130&Name=James+Home&Type=Homes&Avail=&Stay=
Then there is this modest dump.
http://www.balihai.com/vacationrentals/customer/product/productid_76/cat_1/page_2/
And if the stock market does exceptionally well between now and then, there is this one. Sort of far from the water though.
http://www.jeanandabbott.com/property/Dolphin_House.asp
See...it just keeps getting closer and closer to 100.
$650 cleaning fee? Even if I had it I wouldn't want to pay it! How bout tents on hippie beach?
Hey bbq.......I was watching House Hunters' International the other night and a big thing the woman wanted was an outdoor shower. I immediately thought of you!!!!!!
We could buy a generator and aero beds and 1000 thread sheets and spa towels and tents and a brand new bbq and donate a some new picnic tables and tiki torches and lots and lots of ice and fireworks and a gallon of sea-soap and a private caterer for a luau and not even come close to $18000 per week.
gyppie, can't you read? I told you cheryl and gmac are high falutin! The tents will not work for them! But, I do have a new tie dyed tshirt that would work on hippie beach!
Now, get up off your stingy butt and chip in for the $650 cleaning fee. It's for a grand pahtee in the making!!
does bbq pee outdoors?
hehehe.....
I do EVERYTHING outdoors!
I like gyppie's idea, but you forgot to mention the palm fronds for all you ladies to fan me with. Remember?
Pisces, typical Pisces! Always a DREAMER!
Are these individual tents or just one big tent??
gyppie? What the hell is sea-soap? Doesn't sound first class.
well back in the day when I bareboated in the BVI which is much more adventurous than a silly little villa with 20 bedrooms and 73 bathrooms for the two of you. . .
well bareboating we would take sea soap baths in the ocean, and rinse of with a frsh water shower.
You would be amazed at how clean and refreshing a sea soap bath followed by a fresh water rinse can be!!!!!
hehehe....you
s you!
Crap, I just spilled a brand new bottle of Coke Zero all over the den. What a mess, and it's all bbq's and gyppie's fault for making me worry that I may have to sleep in a tent.
At least I have a carpet guru living here to help me clean it up! And, he pees outside all of the time!
And I just sprayed the bathroom ceiling with my brand new fancy shampoo! It is all over the mirror, the ceiling, the light fixture! Have you ever tried to clean up a soap product? Dont use water! LOL. What a cr#* a#$ mess! Don't ask how I did it.
Like I thought sea soap is definitely NOT first class.
And gyppielou...the house had 5 bathrooms and 5 bedrooms and we the two of slept in each and every one of them darn beds! So there!
LMAO!!!!! You so funny mister!!!!
#100!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
would it be first class if you had marteen rinse you off with a dozen cans of Evian Spritz?
snort
gyppie, the operative word here is SLEPT.......just in case you was a wondering!
double snort and a loud guffaw.

cigarette time!
Well, iceeu2, you seem to be the Fodorite "IT-girl"! Over 100 posts. Congratulations?
And, ladies, I have a feeling that $650 might be getting away cheap. You sound like a wild bunch & it might take the cleaning crew a few days to pick up after your party! lol
HV, I'm no lady.
The sad truth is that before I leave a rental, I freshly launder the bed linen and towels, take out the trash etc. . .
Virgin, you're gonna want a piece of the $650 cleaning fee after your trip to Kauai! Believe me....you just wait
I'm s little like gyppie.
We always leave our rentals in fairly good shape. We always put the dishes in the d/w and turn it on, put the bed linens and/or towels in the washer and turn it on. I wouldn't want to clean a rental for a living so I think it is doing a good thing to give cleaning person an easier go.
Well, most rentals have in their agreements that you take out the trash, start the dishwasher, sweep up the sand, put all the towels and linens in one place, etc!

The cleaning people have to turn the place in pretty fast order sometimes so it's all spiffy for the next people coming in.
Well..we usually like to do a little extra and go beyond what is layed out in the rental agreement, whatever that might be.
I STILL don't get everyone's fascination with Kauai.
I am with Kal...Why Kauai????

imq--those houses are o.k, if you weren't so cheap you could find a nice place to stay!
You know I am pretty high flautin'
gmac. I know, but I do the best I can. M ties my hands and allows me only a small stipend on which to spend on travel. It is very frustrating. And now with the economy in a tailspin, he's cut back so much that we have to fly business and not first class! BooHoo! What's a girl to do?
....so my reaseach into this odd phenomena continues.
The things I do for this board.
iamq--As long as you still get the fresh baked cookies and the sundae bar..I guess you'll just have to suck it up!
