B&Bs near Charlotte
In September, we're spending a weekend in Charlotte with our adult daughter. She has selected three B&BS nearby. Does anyone have any experience with the Davidson Village Inn, 803 Elizabeth or Robin's Nest? Thanks.

Never stayed at any of those places, but we used to live in Davidson and it's a nice little town, with the lovely campus of Davidson College to stroll through. Close to Lake Norman (here's a nice little local park if you want to stroll down by the water: http://charmeck.org/Departments/Park...ict/Jetton.htm ). There are a few restaurants in Davidson and many more in nearby Cornelius. If you drive toward Charlotte on Beatties Ford Road you'll pass Latta Plantation: http://www.lattaplantation.org/ (also check out the Presbyterian Church located right at the turn from Beatties Ford to the Plantation: http://hopewellpresbyterian.com/ ). The U.S. National Whitewater Center is nearby: http://www.usnwc.org/ ). And there is a lot of new retail at I-77 Exit 18 (intersection with WT Harris Blvd). And of course if you have any interest in NASCAR the Speedway and related attractions are not far away.
803 Elizabeth may be charming but Matthews is not my favorite area of Charlotte.
Mt. Holly itself is okay but the Gastonia side of Charlotte would be my least favorite.

I don't have any experience w/B & B's in CLT. The only one I would have considered used to be Uptown & it has since been converted to Dr's offices. DancingBear makes an interesting comment re: Matthews since (too me) Davidson & Matthews are fairly similar. In addition, Matthews has a free (weekly) movie or band on Saturday, in the park. The problem w/the north side of town is, of course, the traffic. If you are staying in CLT, I'd probably just stay Uptown depending on your daughter's location (does she live here ?). www.charlotte.com.

I assumed the daughter doesn't live in Charlotte because the B&Bs posted are all way across town from one another.
I should clarify that my issue with Matthews probably has more to do with driving Independence into the city more than Matthews itself. But of course I chose to live in Davidson when I was there, so that's my prejudice showing.

And with all due respect, Matthews and Davidson are not at all alike! Davidson is a really really lovely college town, with lots of character. Matthews is cute but just not the same thing.
Do you really want a B&B per se? And if you are visiting IN Charlotte, it is pretty good to stay in the city.
If you are all going to stay together, and want the B&B, I would choose Davidson. There ia LOT going on in that part of the county, and getting into Charlotte other than rush hours to and from the city is not far and is fast on the interstate.

I'll try & stay away from the Davidson v. Matthews argument (after this response). I live in Matthews & also avoid Independence. In fact, although Matthews encompasses a lot of area, I am really speaking to the downtown portion. The same argument could be stated for Davidson w/I-77. I can also walk to everything that I possibly need. So, while I also like the appeal of a small college town, I don't think people really 'get' Matthews, until they live here. Davidson is also about twice as far from Uptown as Matthews is (as the crow flies) w/much worse traffic. Skip the B & B's in CLT, I just don't see it.

Haven't stayed at the B&B's but have spent lots of time in Davidson and Matthews and have lived in uptown CLT and now live 2 miles from uptown CLT. For quaint, cute, charming, I would stay in Davidson. You may also want to consider staying at the VanLandingham estate for a few nights- it's close to uptown and very pretty. Or, if you truly want to see Charlotte, stay uptown. Abram- does your daughter live in Charlotte? If so, what area? You may want to stay in an area that is close to her...
