I need help. We just returned from a wonderful family vacation, and are thinking about next year. We are a family of about 20 people, ranging in age from 3 months to 86. Ideally we would find an inn/B&B on the ocean which we could take over for a weekend. If not the ocean, a lake could work. We want to be within 2 hours of the Boston area. The place we went to this year was beautiful, but quite expensive and we had no living room area to gather in. So I am turning to my Fodors friends for help.

Boston, my 2 hour food shopping spree to satiate my man's needs

You might take a look at the Gables Victorian Mansion in Barrington, RI...sleeps at least 20 though I'm not sure if they accept small children.
Take a look at Land's End Inn in Provincetown. They have their Great Hall which will accomodate your entire family and also the wrap-around porch.
We went to the Interlaken Inn in CT and had a wonderful family reunion. We rented a house with six bedrooms, each with private bath, and a common area. The resort is very low-key, has a lake across the road, and is near LimeRock which some of our group enjoyed. Two of our children and their families met us there and I think it took them 2 1/2 hrs.
Where did you go on your recent vacation? I have been looking for another location, too.

This place is wonderful!!
evelyntrav, sorry it took so long to reply. We went to the Stageneck Inn in York Harbor. If you don't have very young children, Black Point Inn is lovely. Children under 3 are excluded from the dining room and can't stay at a room in the main inn. They offered us a private dining room, but none of us wanted to go to a place where we would have to worry about the youngest ones being welcome.
I second the Black Point Inn.
And actually, I'd prefer to stay out of the main house, as there is a two-story structure with appx 8-10 rooms that could house your entire group, and includes a fire-placed common living room overlooking the ocean. I can't remember the name of the building, but if you drive past the main house, it would be on your left, just beyond the swimming pool. There is/was a porch swing out front, and a deck on the back. Private, quiet, and gorgous ocean views from two sides.
The Black Point Inn is on Prout's Neck in Scarborough, Maine, about 15 minutes away from downtown Portland.
Good Luck with your plans. Sounds wonderful!
