Can someone suggest a quaint & cozy B&B in the Berkshires? My husband and I are planning to go in October. We're thinking about the Great Barrington, Lenox or Stockbridge areas -- although never having been there, we are not exactly sure.
B&B in Berkshires?

Most B&B's in the Berkshires, "quaint and cozy" or bland and tacky, are filled to capacity in October, the height of the foliage season. I would think that the current situation, with people choosing destinations closer to home, would tighten availability even more. My advice would be to book the first place you can find with a room available.
MsT
Ken is right accommodation will be tight in foliage season, But due to recent (Tragic) events I have read that many New England Chambers of commerce have reported a rise in Inn cancellations - So you might have a broader choice after all.
Try the following sites as you can access lots of B & B/Inn websites easily from these sites.

www.berkshires.com
www.lenox.org
Hope this helps.
We like the Westhervane Inn in South Egremont - quiet, cozy, friendly hosts. Near Great Barrington - super antiquing, etc etc. I was pleased to get some fairly last minute accomodations there in the near future - my guess is that the Inns in the area, usually booked months in advance for this period, are being hit by cancellations. The Weathervane has a website with room availabilty posts which actually seem to be updated on a regular basis (not always the case with Inns).
I live near the Berkshires and heard on tv this morning that tourism is WAY down. They said the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge has had 200 cancellations this week. I think you should be able to find what you're looking for.
Our family likes the Berkshires.
We stayed at the Rookwood Inn in Lenox 7 years ago and are returning this month for a ski weekend - will let you know how it goes.
Its a nice small Inn that welcomes kids and is more intimate than the Red Lion.
Seems to be filling up this winter.
Can anyone recommend a ski resort for a family with young kids near Lenox.
I see that Bousquet and Butternut are close by.
Anyone have a perspective?
We've stayed a couple of times - including this past fall - at the Weathervane Inn in South Egremont which is near Great Barrington. Very clean, well run, quiet - nice friendly hosts - not particularly luxurious, but well-appointed rooms in a peacful, yet convenient, location.
