Baseball....
As a lot of you will know from my constant posts - I'm going on my Honeymoon next July. Part of it is in Naples, Fl and we'd love to catch a Major League Baseball game.
Would I be right in thinking that the Florida Marlins are the closest team to where we'll be?
When will next season's schedule be announced and how early can you usually buy tickets for a game?
Thanks
Martin

Martin, I would hop over to Miami for a game. In fact, I would maybe even make a night of it in South Beach.
The website is FlaMarlins.com and they should have the 2004 season up.
Not sure but the Tampa Bay Devil Rays may be a good option.
Patrick? OliveOyl?

Typically the Marlins are away from home all of the 10 nights we will be in Naples.
Tampa have some home games though - what would that be like?
Easy to get to?
We are in NY for 4 nights before that - could go and see a NY team but didn't fancy my chances of getting there and back!!

We went to a Yankee game in July 2001 via the subway and it was a breeze..we even had our then 5 year old son traveling with us. You are able to see a great part of NYC that is a bit different than mid-town.

In NYC, it's easy to get to either Shea or Yankee stadium by subway. I assume you'll be coming from somewhere in midtown....
Yankee Stadium - D Train to 161 St/Rive Ave or 4 Train to 161 St.
Shea Stdium - 7 Train to Shea Stadium/Willets Point.
Yankee Stadium is the quicker trip. Note, that when one team is playing home games, the other is almost always playing away games.

We go to Yankee Stadium several times a year and in March we're planning to attend a Yankee spring training game in Tampa!
When you're in Florida, driving from Naples to Tampa can't be much more than Naples to Miami, so you could see the Devil Rays in action. Tickets are easy to get but it's an ugly domed stadium.
At Yankee Stadium it's usually easy to get seats, but hard to get good ones. In recent years Yankee tickets have gone on sale in early December. You can check at www.yankees.com or at the Ticketmaster site.
If the Yankees aren't in town, you'll have to settle for Shea Stadium. Availability shouldn't be a problem there!

Naples to St. Pete is about 2 1/2 hours away. It's an easy drive, but I don't know if it's worth it just for a Devil Rays game. Something about the atmosphere at the "Trop" is lacking, it just doesn't feel right. I don't know very many people that enjoy going to the games, but you will have absolutely no trouble getting tickets, unless they're playing the yankees or the red sox and Pedro is pitching. Here's a link to the Ray's 2004 schedule. http://tampabay.devilrays.mlb.com/NA...n_schedule.jsp

Not sure how you think you are going to get to a game during your honeymoon but fair play to you for trying. If the Yankees are at home when you are in NYC try to go there. After all, with 160 games a season, tickets are not that difficult to obtain. Subway links are good too.

Are you kidding? Women love going to baseball games! We get to drink beer, eat hotdogs, watch cute guys, and look at some nice butts! You don't even have to pay attention to the game because they will show the replay on the big screen.
Go to a Yankees game! I forgot about the NYC part of your honeymoon. Florida would be miserable outside in July in the hot sun.

to check out any major league baseball team, go to MLB.COM - the official site of Major League Baseball. From there you can go to any team site. Some teams have their 2004 schedules (or tentative schedules) posted but others don't have them posted yet.
