Bar harbor/cape cod area

My husband and I are going to bar harbor and cape cod. It is for a relaxing time away - shopping, dining, casual biking, and poolside and water views (Sept 5-12 flexible). Could you give any suggestions for hotels, restaurants, must see places. We presently have 5 nites reserved at Harbor side (which seemed to be a perfect fit for us accommodation-wise) is that too many nights there? We are looking for another 3-4 days at Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket. We look forward to any information and recommendations.

I'd say 4 nights at Harborside and then maybe a night halfway between the two, maybe Ogunquit? Otherwise you need a full day for travel between the two...it's about 7 hours driving...unless there are flights Bar Harbor to Martha's Vineyard.

You seem to be splitting a week between the two: three days on the Cape, three days in Bar Harbor and one full day driving between the two. Is this right?

Does it include getting to the Cape and back home from Maine?

Let us know, and we can give you better advice.

Honestly, splitting between Cape Cod and Maine in the same week seems a bit much to me. I'd do either all Maine (Maybe Bar Harbor and either Ogunquit or more time in Acadia) or some combination of the Cape and Nantucket or the Vineyard.

This is a lot to accomplish in just one week, especially if your main objective to relax. I'd do one or the other. You can easily spend a week in Bar Harbor, relaxing. In addition to the activities you mentioned you could take a sailboat cruise from the harbor, kayak, explore some of the villages, maybe do a whale watch. The Cape is a long way to drive from Bar Harbor, just for a few days as was mentioned.
