Need to be in DC in early August. Have always flown into National or Dulles. Recent search turned up cheap fares to Baltimore. How difficult is it to get from Baltimore to DC using public transit? time? distance?

It's not difficult. We took the MARC train from BWI to Union Station in October; it was inexpensive and didn't take very long.

Unless something has changed, this train doesn't run on weekends or federal holidays. Since we left DC on Columbus Day, we took the Metro from Union Station to Greenbelt. From there you can easily catch a bus to BWI. This took a few minutes longer, since we had to wait at the bus stop, but it worked very well.

AMTRAK also stops at BWI and drops you at Union Station.
