BADLANDS--YELLOWSTONE--GLACIER NAT'L--SEATTLE/AREA--SALT LAKE CITY . . . what are the MUST SEEs? the HIGHLIGHTS?

Hello!

Thanks for responding. My family is taking a 3 week road trip through South Dakota, Yellowstone, up to Glacier, over to Seattle, down to Salt Lake City, over to Rocky Mt. NP, and back to Madison WI.

If you've been to any of these places, and have been impressed [in good or bad ways], please let me know. Any info on what to see and where to spend time/$ would be appreciated.

Thanks Again!

You are about to see some of the most beautiful scenery in all the world!! Your choices include several of my top ten favorite sites of natural beauty in the US!! I can't say anything bad against ANY of these parks.

One disclaimer: Temple Square in Salt Lake City is blatant prosletyzing for the Latter Day Saints. Go for the history (as I tried to), but you WILL get a sermon to convince you to join the LDS. If you sign your name as a visitor, you *WILL* get a visit to your door by LDS missionaries!!

Here are some SLC sites: Temple Square is very interesting and you don't have to go in the visitor's center to see the rest. The Tabernacle, home of the famous choir, The Beehive House (one of Brigham Young's homes), and the Temple itself are all important historical and architecturally significant buildings. Call ahead to find out when you can hear a choir rehersal complete with organ. Park City on I80 is a very fun town, famous for it's mines long before skiing. You can take a tour of the silver mine that made one of the famous, wealthy East Coast families rich (can't remember which one). Park City also has a great, and extremely poplular, Art Festival in August which includes a full spectrum of great music. You can also check out some of the future Olympic venues as well as the Stein Erickson Lodge at Deer Valley ski resort. Extremely expensive to stay at, but a very beautiful building and world famous for it's cuisine. Drop in for lunch and a gorgeous view surrounded by aspens on the sun deck. You could also take a ride up the Snowbird ski resort tram and enjoy a truly amazing view east to Wyoming and down into the SLC valley. Have a great time! Salt Lake is a clean, friendly city.

PS: If you are driving from Jackson Hole to SLC, take the route along the western edge of Bear Lake. Stop and buy some locally grown, fresh raspberries. Yum!!!!

I agree that Park City has a lot to offer. The Silvermine Adventure is worth the 40 min drive up a beautiful canyon. I would also suggest the This is the Place State Park. It has an old western town look with a lot of old town buildings and activities. Many visitors to SLC want to check out the geneological building where they can trace their roots. Also, Capitol Theater is our premier theater that houses opera, ballet, and broadway musicals. There is a lot of construction going on so try and find back roads where you can see the beauty of the mountains. Sundance in Provo Canyon is also a spot to check out. They have an outdoor theater, horseback riding, mountain trails and a great restaurant.
