Back from Minneapolis

Or how I ate my way through Minneapolis! So much for trying to lose a few pounds.

I had a wonderful 5 days visiting a dear friend in Minneapolis.
I had never been to this city and I loved it.
Tragically, the bridge had fallen the night before I arrived. Of course, everyone was worried about the missing people and the mood was somber.

But we had eating to do! My friend lives Uptown and so she showed me all the restaurants in the area. I was surprised at how big they were inside, and even on a Thurs night, they were packed.

Right across the street from my friend was Isles Bun and Coffee, at 1422 West 28th St.
Oh my goodness! The cinammon buns, and puppy dog tails were soooo good. And they had a huge bowl of icing ..a help yourself bowl.. and I did indeed help myself. IT was to die for. They could have just given me a spoon and the bowl. Forget the buns! I went over every morning for my fix and a coffee.

There was the Uptown Art Fair taking place and it was a great place to wander around and look at all the beautiful crafts and paintings. THe artists were from all over the States , and even Canada, and the work was top quality ...I really enjoyed seeing it all.

Ok, on to more eating.. BTW, we didn't do any fine dining, but rather some favourite spots of my friends.

We went one night to Convention Grill for really great burgers adn fries. IT's at 3912 Sunnyside Road, Edina.

Another night we went to Pepito's at 4820 Chicago Ave S. The favourite that night was Nachos Lupitas and Enchiladas. Delicious!!

During the day we went on driving excursions, so my friend could show me her lovely city. I saw many beautiful areas. ..and loved the small lakes within the city.

Then, of course, we went to Mall of America. HUGE!! I really just wanted to see it, but really felt the NEED to spend some money! I found a shop called Black and White and got a couple of pairs of really cute shorts.
We ate there ( food talk again!) at the Twin City Grill. I recommend the BBQ Chicken Flatbread pizza. Oh it was soooo good.

Of course in between we had ice creams and other goodies.

I'm not usually so good at wanting to write down the names of places, but these places were all so good, I had to share them. And none of them were expensive.

Oh and we went to Maria's Cafe to have a Corn Pancake that was also very very good.
It's located at 1113 E Franklin Av.

As you can see, we did enjoy our eating, and I would love to go back to Minneapolis again. It's truly a lovely city.

I noticed your comment in the lounge. Perhaps this topping will increase reading.

We too were in Minnesota right after the bridge collapse. The mood as you say was somber but I was impressed by the compassion and unity this state showed. Minneapolis is a great town, enjoyed your trip report. If you get a chance to go back try Hell's kitchen for breakfast!

Thank you for your trip report, Kodi.
My daughter is attending the U of M/Twin Cities and I've been enjoying trips to Minneapolis and will be back there Labor Day weekend. I copied your post.

Some of my favorites in Minneopolis are on Nicolette Ave, The Newsroom, I think we've been there 4 times now. Jerusalems, which the night we were there featured an evening belly dancer, huge platters of food...and the restroom is through the kitchen.
Buca Di Beppo at 1204 Harmon Pl is nearby and a good Italian restaurant.

We also enjoy Tuccis for Italian in the MOA.

We lived in the area for three years and were surprised at what good eats they have up there. Best Chinese I've had in a while (yes, including SF Bay area), good sushi, Vietnamese, French, Italian, bakeries--you name it, you can find it, and it'll probably be great. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit, kodi! We miss the Twin Cities.

LHS - DS3 goes to the U of M. We have family there so we don't eat out that often.

Yes the icing was worth the trip! I could have put it on stale old bread and it would have been delicious! But the puppy dog tails were excellent.

All of these places were reasonably priced. Great for anyone on a budget or students.

Sounds like there are still many places to try on another visit.

Oh and on our tour of St.Paul, I noticed dinosaurs all over downtown. They were brightly painted and decorated. REminded me of the moose Toronto used to have. They were cute.
I also loved the bronze statues of Lucy, Charlie Brown, Linus and gang. They were adorable and well done.

Also, the cathedral in St. Paul is beautiful. WE were lucky enough to arrive during the music practice. Beautiful organ and violin playing.

I missed this till today, kodi. Great report about one of my all time favorite cities! In fact I love the whole state. Thanks for posting. I am a big fan of a good trip report with plenty of food information (hey, help yourself iciing....that's the essential stuff). Welcome home.

I started reading your trip report right after you posted, got interupted and forgot to go back to it. Thanks for the reminder!

We passed through the Twin Cities about a week before you were there. We debated stopping. DH, DD and I have been watching Mary Tyler Moore reruns all summer. Of course, they're new to DD! And she's become quite a fan. She really wanted to stop so we could see the statue of Mary throwing her hat!

But, alas, it was already too late in the day. In fact, it was rush hour on a Friday! So we decided we'd rather save it for another trip. One when we could take our time and really enjoy the area. So when I saw your trip report, I was very interested in getting some restaurant ideas

How did that happen? I wasn't finished! Much less had I had a chance to edit! Grrr!

Anyway, I'm so glad I came back to your report. We're not into fine dining. So you gave me lots of good ideas!

Thanks, kodi!

CAPH52, we saw the Mary Tyler Moore house, but I didn't see the statue. I'll have to go back!

All the eating places I mentioned were really really good and definately the price was right.
THe corn pancake at Maria's was soooo good.
