The only thing awkward is the timing: a Tuesday night in winter.
We're celebrating my mom's 80th, and all the places I had thought of as suitable (eg The Grove Park Inn) aren't open for dinner on Tuesdays in February. I am looking for a Really Nice place -- great food, lovely surroundings. I wish Gabrielle's was still there.
Can anyone suggest a restaurant for a big deal meal?

Does it have to be evening? Many nice restaurants have a small dining room for private parties. Depending on how many people can make it, they may even throw in a birthday cake.
Call and check with a couple of your favorites.
What about the restaurant at the Inn at Biltmore? We've had large group parties there and it was very nice.

Thanks for the suggestions.
The idea of lunch is a great one -- especially since my mom hates eating late (i. e. after 6!) -- but work schedules won't permit it this time.
I wondered about the Inn at Biltmore, starrs, but having eaten at other Biltmore Estate venues, I was doubtful of the quality. I'll look into that further, though, on the strength of your rec.
Thanks to you both!
