Austin TX - GTG - May 22

I have this also posted in the lounge.....

I am so very excited to be back here and want to organize another GTG - certainly with the help of those who live there in the "know"

I suggest we do very late lunch or early dinner. Drinks of course at either one.

The earliest flight on Southwest AIr lands at 11:35 am. I think I want to check in hotel first - Renaissance Austin at Arboretum Boulevard

I like the Hula Hut idea as many suggested! What do you all think!!!???

annesherrod, Maybe you'll get more hits after everyone recovers from spring break! I am looking forward to Hula Hut and my first ever GTG.

THat is a Sunday. Are you thinking about 2:00? It will be super busy but sounds good. Most popular restaurants in Austin are busy on weekends. Waiting could be fun actually.

FYI, Hula Hut is very loud, inside or out. (Out is great if the weather permits. Its on the lake)

Be sure and call them as the outside deck was struck by lightning on New Years Eve and has been closed. I'm sure you'll have fun there if you sit outside. Please don't expect much from the food though.

I sent them an email to see the status of the deck. I will ask about reservations. I agree that the food is good, not great. They pride themselves on their atmosphere and location. It is a good meeting place however if you are trying to meet varying needs/tastes. Sitting inside, IMHO is not worth it.

Yes, kind of like the Oasis...great location/okay food. And, I know this is off topic but, speaking of the Oasis, there is a new restaurant now open next to the Oasis called Soleil. The food is definitely good there! Same great view. We went for dinner but are going back for happy hour next time. Their appetizers were very, very good.

Hula Hut responded and said "We are seating people out there today. Come on down!" (Didn't really answer my quesiton if it's fixed.

We ate at Soleil on Sunday (Groupon) for my husbands' birthday and absolutely enjoyed every minute of it. We went earlyish, sat on the deck in the U shaped booth with a lovely view of the lake. The service was great, I was impressed by the wine choices and prices, and we liked everything we ordered. They also have a brand new seafood bar as well. It's a really lovely place. We will be back there soon.

They also have a brand new Uncle Billy's right next to the Oasis as well. I'd be more partial to checking out one of those restaurants (Uncle Billy's or Soleil) but Hula Hut would be fine. I saw on the news that they were putting the "finishing touches" on Hula Hut and they would be done in the next few weeks, so they should definitely be done by May.

This would be my first Fodor's GTG!
