ATTN: Bemidji MN area oldtimers

Hi,

Need your help. As a kid in the 50s, I vacationed every year for several years at a RUSTIC fishing cabin "resort" on a small lake outside of Bemidji. My parents called it Doc's. Can anyone tell me where it was located and what lake it was on? Is it still there? My sister and I want to visit the area in August and would love to get out there for old times' sake. Seems like we could row our boat between the lake it was on and a couple of others, but the memory is hazy.

Thanks for your help.

I've lived in the Bemidji area for over 50 years and I can't recall any resort called Doc's. That said, time and taxes have taken a toll on small resorts. It's likely that it has been sold and become someone's dream lakeside cabin.

Since you don't recall the lake it was on or the exact name of it, may I suggest that it could have been on Big Turtle lake north of Bemidji. The is a river channel connecting it to Little Turtle on one end and Movil lake on the other. In any case, you would probably enjoy the lake and the updated cabins at the resorts now in operation would be a welcome change from the cabin you remember. I hope you come and explore/reacquaint yourself with this beautiful area.

i love this post. my grandparents owned a resort on cass lake named dick's lodge and we went to work there in summers in the 70s and now my sister and i also want to go back and stay at a resort to see it from the "other side." funny, i was talking about it and my husband found a bunch of resorts in his golf magazine by brainerd. don't think it would be quite the same!

Thanks so much for the replies. I'm kind of thinking the Turtle Lakes idea could be the one. I'll pursue that and the Walker property.
