Atlanta restuarants
Everyone was so helpful when I was looking for north End places to eat.
I was wondering if anyone can help for good places in this city.
mostly , not expensive, because it will be my husband going out to eat after working all day, and fancy can be too tiring, so to speak.
I tried a search and came up with a couple recommendations, but you know the search here, it pulled up threads such as
"Astoria, N.Y ", and other strange unrelated topics.

Brian, He will not be alone., but I am not sure what part of the city he will be in.
They are doing conservation work on a
(historic) Baptist Church.
He works on the plaster, ornamental, and reattachment.
They already have a place to stay.
I'll get more details this evening ,if that would be helpful.

Brian,
the best I can get out of him is
"Downtown somewhere"
I guess he will not know til he arrives.
He will be there for 10 days, so I can Ask for advice later on, and relay the info.
But, if you have any places that stand out, and are not trendy, yuppie, type places, let me know.

OK, well the downtown restaurant scene is pretty bleak - mostly geared toward convetioneers and parking is a pain, so here are some ideas nearby:
The Vortex - on Peachtree near 7th Street in Midtown - consistantly voted the best burgers in the ATL, it's got a tough-guy-friendly-neighborhood-bar feel to it. It's the essence of non-trendy. Cheap.
Vickery's - another friendly neighborhood bar that has a large restaurant operation - nestled in a trendy area on Crescent Street (near 12th Street), it's an oasis of non-trendy. Still casual, but a bit more fancy than the Vortex. The grits with shrimp and crawfish and oysters, etc. are good and filling for about $16 including soup. You can drink beer or wine here and be comfortable.
Front Page News - next door to Vickery's, and has a bit more of a yuppie crowd, but the outdoor patio is great on warm nights. New Orleans cuisine.
Zocalo - corner of Piedmont and 10th Street. Authentic Mexican restaurant - no chips or refried beans. Good stuff, cool, laid back, open-air atmosphere. About $10-$15 for dinner entrees.
Fellini's - a local chain of pizza joints - closest to downtown is on Ponce De Leon out towards North Highland. We usually make a meal out of a salad (great house salad) and a slice made to order. Order at the counter. Good pizza. Dirt cheap.
La Fonda Latina - next door to Fellini's, it's a cuban-american joint with table service - decent cuban sandwiches, great chips & salsa. Cheap.
Camelli's pizza - fantastic *monster* slices with homemade ingredients - think twice before ordering 2. Unfortunately their salads suck. On Ponce in the Kroger shopping center.
These are the places that come to mind when we're hungry and don't want to dress to impress. If he's interested in something fancier, let me know.

I just noticed that my reply to your last post with all those recommendations, did not register, and post!

Thanks so for all those great places, I have printed them out for Rory to take with him, plus a search brought up 1-2 other posts, where you made some other suggestions.
but the places you mentioned are right up their alley, and I am sure will provide a good meal.
