Aspen, Maroon Bells

Thank you to all who confirmed in an earlier topic, that the buses to Highlands and from there to the Maroon Bells viewpoint will not be operating midweek, end of May. My question is, how "white knuckle" might we expect this drive from Aspen to be if we decide to drive up there, to the Maroon Bells, in our own car? We have some trepidation, driving on narrow roads with steep dropoffs, hairpin turns. I know we will be in the wrong state for this concern and should have planned our timing better, but now we are committed to these dates. We appreciate all advice. Also, if we decide not to drive, are there tours or drivers who can be hired to take us up there?

Not remotely white knuckle; it's a very easy drive.

I was going to say the same, I don't remember it as being scary at all, and I was in a rental.
That said, I know there are shuttle buses that depart from Aspen for Maroon Bells regularly.

Yep, totally mellow road, no worries from that standpoint. Could be a lot of people riding bicycles. Please keep an eye out for them.

Thank you, Sylvia and NewbE. Our problem is, we have learned in our previous post that the shuttle buses do not go all the way up to the Maroon Bells viewpoint midweek at that time of year. So, that being off-season, is there any restriction on time of day for cars? I know they are restricted when the buses are running; but apparently, midweek, when we will be there, the buses are not running.

Thank you, Nelson, as well. We'll look out for the cyclists.

Sorry, meggies, I didn't realize the shuttle question had already been explored! It's been so long since I was last there, I can't answer your question about cars.

Never had a problem with parking, but we always get an early start (cyclists on the road coming back can definitely be an issue). Always a chance of snow in May
