Aspen changing in Colorado
I drove yesterday from Salida to Gunnison and then back from Gunnison to Denver. The aspen were changing color, especially on the Monarch Pass. Also some snow

Drove up to Breckenridge today, a few pockets of nice color here and there, but still a bit early for peak color. Cool and rainy now, might snow tonight.
Planning to drive over Independence Pass on Tuesday, will see what it's like there.

Some nice color on the east side of Independence Pass today but much less on the west side and around the town of Aspen itself. Will probably drive up to the Bells tomorrow.
A couple inches of snow had fallen on the pass and all the high peaks are nicely dusted with fresh show, absolutely gorgeous.

Spectacular color up towards the ends of both Castle Creek and Maroon Bells roads, made even more impressive by the fresh snow on the peaks. Still less color around the town of Aspen itself, but prime fall viewing has arrived to Colorado.

Uploaded a couple photos of the classic view of the Bells taken Thursday last week, a glorious fall day:

Your photos are stunning, Nelson. The Maroon Bells are shamelessly gorgeous, aren't they? The evening shot is nice, with the clouds. Thanks for posting them.
We are headed to Winter Park this weekend, and I expect the colors will be everywhere. Will report back.

Thanks much Tabernash. That was one of those days where if you dropped your camera and the shutter fired, then you probably got a pretty good shot. My wife and I were mesmerized by the Maroon Bells that day, she thought they must be Photoshopped! I have a few more shots from the Castle Creek road that I'll get around to uploading soon, it was beautiful up there too.
Yesterday I was up on a 12,000 foot high point on the ridge north of Montgomery Pass (Rawah Mountains, Poudre Canyon) and could see an amazing carpet of color in North Park. Hopefully the storm coming in tonight doesn't wipe it out early. Looks like the brunt of it will be in Wyoming, but we are out harvesting the last of the garden vegetables now.
Have a great weekend.

I'm happy to hear the colors are out in Aspen so we're heading there this weekend. I hope the storm goes north so we can enjoy the show of colors.
We drove in northern New Mexico this week and there isn't much going on due to the drought. Light color patches but no full fall colors.
Thanks for the updates.
