Asheville, NC Weekend March 9 Snow?

We have a 3 day weekend planned for Asheville in early March, it's me and my teenage son. We'll be going to the Biltmore for a day and on at least one of the other days, I would like to play in the snow. We are driving from Florida and I don't want to invest the money in a ton of gear for learning to ski or anything, but my son has never seen snow before so we are trying to figure out where we can see it. Maggie Valley? Blue Ridge Parkway? Feeling a little clueless.

You can NEVER know if there will be natural snow in the NC mountains. You can do Asheville, and you can go fairly nearby to ski areas and "see" it. Maggie. or on up toward Blowing Rock/Sugar Mountain.
BUT if it is at a ski area, and there isn't any natural snow, it is sort of "strange" and not satifying, IMO.

So is there a place in Smoky Mountains National Park that is a higher elevation where we would have a better chance of seeing real snow? I'm with you, not really interested in the fake stuff.

We are expecting snow this weekend. You could go up toward Boone and Blowing Rock/Grandfather Mountain. BUT no way to tell.

I think what we'll do is plan on going to the Biltmore on Saturday and at that point we can check out where the snow is for Sunday and Monday (if there is any). You've given me some great places to check into, so thanks!
