Are most public school Spring Breaks over by late March and early April?

Hi everyone. Just curious because we are planning to drive from Texas to Tennessee. In Central Texas our Spring Break is typically mid-March. We wanted to take our little boy to visit either the Memphis Zoo or possibly the Tennessee Aquarium in Chattanooga. If we can avoid those peak times I figured it might be more enjoyable for all of us. Thanks!

There is no universal Spring Break. You will find breaks starting as winter recesses in February, all the way through mid to late April. Some public schools go year round now with breaks every couple of months. You might do better re-naming your topic to spring breaks in TN to narrow it down a bit. Maybe TN has a more uniform approach

I would imagine that *most* visitors to those attractions would be relatively local. Shelby County and Memphis city schools have spring break March 17-21, as does Hamilton County (Chattanooga), according to their web sites. My guess is that most surrounding counties would have similar schedules.

My gut feeling is also that you shouldn't be too concerned with spring break timing for places that aren't clearly "destination" cities for COLLEGE spring breakers.

Just go to Tennessee and have a good time with your son.

It might not hurt to have a few other kids roaming around and making it seeeeem more exciting for your son.

It really shouldn't be a problem crowd-wise though.

No. In New England and some mid-Atlantic states there are 2 vacations - on in February and one in April. In Massachusetts it is always the week of President's Day
(3rd Monday in Feb) and the week of Patriots Day (week of 3rd Monday in April).

In some areas Easter or Passover enter into the vacation planning.
