Has anyone flown with Apple Tours to Hawaii? They offer a good price for airfare only. I read an article about another charter flight company about someone having a horrible experience and wondering if it was the same on all charter flights? Thanks for any info!

Santa Fe, NM trip report (from April)

There were several articles on "Apple Vacations." It is not clear if "Apple Vacations" and "Apple Tours" are related; if you search for "Apple Tours" at Altavista, you will find articles on "Apple Vacations" under heading "Apple Tours to Jamaica," very confusing...

If you are talking Apple Vacations [corporate offices in Illinois], then consider it. I have booked multiple complete packages over the years with Apple Vacations and have never been dissatisfied. There are pros and cons to charter flights.
PROS: generally cheaper that scheduled flights; generally not overbooked since they assume eveyone will show up
CONS: more rigid schedule, often don't fly everyday; if you miss it you're out of luck; generally crowded with tight seating [may be of importance going to Hawaii dependent of city of origin]; tough to change plans at the last minute; often no advance seat assignments-get your seat assignment at check-in so check-in EARLY, as early as they will let you
Remember, most tour companies don't own their own planes, they rent them from charter airlines [for example, American Trans Air was a charter airline for years before it went scheduled and still provides some charter service - Taesa is a charter line that Apple Vacations uses a lot to Caribbean and Mexico] and so the tour company isn't responsible if the charter company has mechanical problems or delayed schedules. If you are delayed, you're stuck until it's ready, there won't necessarily be another plane. Apple Vacations does have some provisions for financial compensation dependent how late the flight is - read their brochure. Given these caveats, if the price is good, book the earliest flight you can in the morning and go.
