My husband wants to go white water rafting in West Virginia and I'm looking for other things to do in the area. Planning on a long weekend trip in June and the rafting should only take 1/2 day.
Any suggestions are appreciated!
Carol.
Anything to do in Beckley, WVa. besides white water rafting?

1. Visit Tamarack in Beckley, which offers a showcase of WVA artisans. Look at:
www.tamarackwv.com
2. While Tamarack may carry a few quilts, the best ones IMHO are at Cabin Creek Quilts in Malden outside Charleston. Call 304/925-9499 for operating hours.
There is a demonstration coal mine in Beckley which is fascinating, and will make you realize what a long way workers have come in this country. I can recommend the state park lodge there, I believe it is called the Hawk's nest (or maybe Eagle's). Comfortable accomodations, including a suite, with a pool, and the restaurant has good food and a great view of the New River.
